It's sad that even if you buy the DVDs, the quality is lower than the HD broadcast. We need Blu-Ray already, I'm sick and tired of the sh!tty format they call DVD.

yeah, but I bought the DVD for the special features :)

plus I got an awesome price :D
Well, share with the rest of us who might want in!!!

from couple of previous threads, the dvd set could have been had for 26 or 23 dollars on memorial day.
Damn!!!:(

maybe I am just used to 24 or I was expecting too much based on the hype, but the 1st episode seemed pretty slow (almost to the point where I turn it off)...will give it a few more episodes...

I thought it was pretty crappy that they didn't even give you a glimpse of the monster that episode...

just my $.02....

I'd still buy it though, but it's frustrating that we have to deal with DVD as a format because I will still buy it also on Blu-Ray when it's available on Blu-Ray.

EDIT: I didn't realize that you had an HD recorder. I should use my HD-TV card more effectively as a recorder. Sometimes I forget that I have that capability.

yea...damn lack of hdtv content we can buy. and the tv shows on dvd only prove why more space is better. so many times they cram one too many eps on the disks to save money, and image quality suffers. and yes, commentary and such is nice

LOST and 24 may both be drama, but they're not the same type of drama

24 = thriller and suspenseful drama

LOST = suspenseful and mysterious drama (and sort of a connect-the-dots drama)

just wait for the second half of the pilot (it's 2 episodes long)

that's why you record it straight off of the HD broadcast ;)

only thing you gotta compromise for is the ABC watermark on the bottom right hand corner

I recorded the episode but haven't bothered to watch it....file was like 16.7GB because I forgot to tell it to only record one subchannel, lol :p

yes, but i'd expect the hdtv bluray to be at full bitrate, not the somewhat sh*t bitrate of ota broadcast

haha, ABC has 3 subchannels here, but I actually remembered for it to only record 7-1

3.15GB w/o commercials for me

What do you mean when you say the somewhat sh*t bitrate of ota broadcast? Are you saying that Lost is actually recorded higher than 720p, but they only show it at 720p? Is that why HDnet and Discovery look so much better than network TV?

data rate isn't resolution though. i'm sure they do recompression when they toss it out over the air.
