Lost my beer vending job for not selling to a preggo.

To me it's the same as a bartender being on the hook for giving a patron one two many beers (if some dude kills someone after downing a bunch at his bar, OP would be on the hook); in this case one is one too many. If he gave her the beer and she had a deformed baby, she would probably sue on those grounds. OP can't win, but as far as I'm concerned he did the right thing.

KT

Yeah - I would have thought if you sold her the beer you'd be on the hook for any complications the child might have had. TBH though with a regulated substance you should have known all the ins and outs of distribution. When she pushed you should have told them you would need to check with the management

I was really suprised thats whet you got fired over it. Maybe they didn't already like you for some reason or your boss is just a dick

The government will fight to no end on abortion, but they won't take 5 minutes to help keep the babies who will actually be born safe. I think doing rec drugs that are known to screw up babies should be a crime if your pregnant.

You were making sense until you used the wrong "your".

It was your choice for losing your job over it. Was it the right one? Hell if I know.

It was her choice to drink with a baby on the way. Was it the right one? Hell if I know.

I know some people with fetal alcohol syndrome and their lives are basically fubar. I wouldn't have sold to her either.

While I sympathize with your morals, OP, you were absolutely not in a position to deny her purchase.

Actually, the OP has the right to deny purchase to anyone at his discretion. This is the way it has always been in retail, especially with controlled substances (alcohol/tobacco).

I live in Arizona, and I go to restaurants and bars all the time that have a sign clearly stating "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." So, clearly, you're the wrong and stupid one here.

They can refuse to serve anyone as long as they have a valid reason. They CANNOT discriminate against an entire class of people who have a legal right to drink and if you're too stupid to understand the difference I think maybe your mommy was chugging down the moonshine while carrying you. A bar or alcohol vendor has a legal right to refuse service to a person that is visibly drunk, that is loud and unruly, that does not meet dress code, etc etc. A bar or alcohol vendor does not have the legal right to refuse service to a person because they're pregnant or because of race or because of religion or because they're in a wheelchair. All you're doing here is proving your ignorance for the world to see it.

Actually you're wrong. Ask anyone with a bartenders license, you can refuse sale to anyone. I was told when I got mine that this was a nationwide truth, serving is at your sole discretion.

Thanks for the replies and support everyone, I appreciate.

The beer vendors are part of a union, I wonder if I have a case to get my job back especially since Cincinnati Sportservice states that you can refuse service to anyone, anytime, for any reason?

lol if you're so confident about this, go ahead and try it based on some pre-determined criteria of your choice. let us know the epic lulz that follows when you tell them you're allowed to refuse them service.

I would at least contact your union and get their take on it, you never know what could come of it until you look into it.

Call your local tv news station and make a story out of this. The stink you make just might get you your job back.

The stink he makes would be epic laughs if the TV news station was stupid enough to get involved. Sadly they'd throw OP out of their offices for being too dumb to live and we'd never get to see it.

OR, it might get the pregnant women in the area mad...no one should ever piss off a creature who is ravaged by the wild hormone swings of pregnancy...😱

I can just see the news story now...

"65,000 pregnant women march on city hall to protest a beer vendor's refusal to serve one of their own.

"In other news, 73 pregnant women went into labor gave birth, right on the street corner, during a march on city hall today."

Film at 11.

You seem to be one of the angrier people in this thread. Bad hair day?

I've refused service a few times to sober people. It's not predetermined criteria its whoever I do not feel comfortable serving. OP wasn't comfortable server her, it is his right to refuse service. If it were me I would have served her unless she seemed to already have had a few, and if I did refuse I would have simply declined the sale and not said it was because she was pregnant.

He should not have been terminated over this incident, that's for sure.

Well alot of women are going to agree with him not selling beer to a pregnant woman (my wife included). You might get a hand full that say he should of.

lulz thread fo sho. So much ignorance in this thread. Like watered down ballpark light beer would have any effect on the baby. OP sorry you lost your job but you lost it because of your ignorance. She could have sat there drinking beer all day and baby would have been just fine. Chalk it up as lesson learned and don't be so judgmental. Cry foul if you see a pregnant chick at a bar taking shots and smoking a cigarette.

meh. seems it worked out corectly. Op refused to sale her beer (his reasons are misguided though. 1-3 beers will not hurt the fetus). She complained to his manager. his manager did not like losing the sale and fired him

i don't see a issue.
