Where do you live?
for some of us its not practical. When I lived in NYC it was doable. In indiana and Los Angleles...not so much..
I'm not so sure putting a bunch of subway tunnels in a very active earthquake zone is a sound idea either. Besides, it costs money... something your state doesn't have.socal but I think this problem can be solved. I think the reason why we don't have this infrastucture is because of the car companies. Never felt worry free without a car.
Meh. Sounds kinda lame to be honest. I've ridden the metro in Atlanta and D.C. Being stuffed into a subway car with a bunch of other people isn't all that fun. I'd rather pay extra and have my own automobile. Much easier for grocery shopping too. I can't imagine taking five big shopping bags home on the rail system.
Besides, trains can't do burnouts. 😀

Grocery shopping is not so bad. I had three bags at one time or you just shop what you need for two days.
Just came back from vacation and experienced the rail system. I lost interest in cars and the value of owning one. Can't get myself to get motivated to get in the car and drive. The train, I get in and out, catch the tram every 15 minutes plus free exercise.
Ummmm, probably not a conspiracy of the car companies. Rather, it's a conspiracy of tax payers not wanting to foot the bill to build it.
