lost in translation is an intelligence test. if you are dumb, you will think it is dumb. if you are smart, you will think it is smart.

It sucks. The movie goes on and on and on....... and guess what. There is no ending. So do yourself a favor and turn it off now.

or, you could be dumb enough to rent it, and smart enough not to watch it.

You just have to get in the mood. It's not a straightforward 'outset - action - denoument' type of movie. You watch it as it flows and look for clues and hints. Bill Murray deserved an Oscar for his brilliant performance, and it's a pity he did not get one.

Typical ATOT'ers are into the typical hollywood whizbang special effects, guns, gore, action, etc. Then when something comes along that actually challenges them on a different level, they have a brain fart

It's one of those movies where I didnt understand the hype it recieved. Bought it on DVD, promptly traded it in. I can appreciate a movie without the "whizbang special effects", but it was just boring.

yeah it's slow. It also seems like it's one of those movies that people either really like or absolutely hate

Yeah, I also feel like it's one of those movies that needs to be watched in the theaters because it is slow but it's also amazing. Being at home provides too many distractions.

I know what you mean, I got carried away watching paint dry...

it was an excuse for old men to ogle the luscious lips and body of scarlet johanson. the reason for its critical praise.

the first time i saw it i thought it was the most boring movie ever. then, out of a lack of anything else on direct tv i watched it again and loved it. after watching it again i realized that when i thought it was boring, i was just missing it. it was happening right in front of me without me even knowing it. there are many different contexts the word "lost" can be used in and 'lost in translation' encompasses many of them. if you've ever felt lost, you can probably relate to the movie. it's not a love story either. if anything, it's about soulmates who happen to find (as opposed to lost) each other when they're both 'lost' in a foreign country.

I dunno I tried watching it in the theatre and i walked out an hour into the movie. I just couldn't see what was happening, it was a bunch of uninteresting random events. Woop-de-doo.

I've been living in Japan for the past 4 months. I don't think the feeling of being a foreigner in Japan could be understood any better than by watching this movie. Other than actually living here yourself. Great movie.

Anybody who has ever connected with somone in a way that changes their lives will like the movie too.

Also, for those who said nothing happened... EVERYTHING HAPPENED. Both characters evolve so much throughout the movie as they examine themselves, where they are in life, where they are going, and both realize how unhappy they are in their current situations. There is something magical, IMO, about the connection they have. There is also a certain degree of beauty in the fact they connect with each other on such a deep level, but leave it only as a connection - they don't run off and have an affair or anything like that.

The movie was all about human emotions and questioning your situation, particularly one that you are unhappy with. If you've ever been very depressed I think this movie rings especially true....

It should've had an ending. But seeing how the whole movie was sorta pointless how could it have an ending?

I have to suffer through a different culture where I live, every friggin day. :frown: That doesn't make me appreciate anything, just pisses me off even more :|

dealing with people of foreign culture is totally different than if you are immersed in a totally different cultural environment.. you deal with these people at work, but if you are not working you are still in the united states
