I thought it was pretty average. I figured the person in the coffin was either going to be Ben or Locke, and when Ben showed up then I wasn't too surprised to see Locke.
I would like to hear:

1) What Sawyer told Kate.
-I feel as if it was something about taking care of Aaron

2) What was said on the phone when Kate answered in her dream.
-No fucking idea

I wonder how the two philosophers are related in real-life... what common thread they have for the LOST writers to join them into a single character...

No one seems to have taken notice of my previous post but wikipedia is lacking in one area. HE WAS ALSO AN ADVOCATE OF BIRTH CONTROL! No one sees the Lsot tie in?

I thought that was a great episode. Still not as good as the finale two years ago, when the hatch exploded, but definitely top notch TV.

WTH?! I'm speechless. lol

Too bad 4x14 aired AFTER my final paper was due for class (due this morning). I did it on Lost, and how the characters have so many philosophy and religious themes weaved into their actions. Using Jeremy Bentham, although I already knew the name from the newspaper clipping at the end of Season 3, but that was too obscure and couldn't really be referenced into the show since no connection had been made. I'm in love with Bentham's panopticon. And I bet their is a connection between that Octagon Global Recruiting website and the pan'opticon'. Both are closed rings. Even better connection... isn't the Pearl Station at the center of the hatch system? The Pearl is also a reference to the Panopticon, as it was the 'watchtower' in the center. Isn't the Pearl Station where the DHARMA people watched everyone at the other hatches?

Regardless... Locke is dead? Son of a bitch. Here's to hoping its only a cloned body. I want to see Locke as the leader of the Others, and I want him to be the leader still when the Oceanic Six return! That'd create some more interesting moments between Jack and John.
I also want to know if the Oceanic 6 knew the name Jeremy Bentham meant John Locke, because they either had an interest or not in going to the funeral.

did you actually watch the show, or just turn and looked at the screen from time to time? More questions raised, well thats obvious. It's a season finale, gotta make a strong cliffhanger ending to get returned viewers for the season premier next season. ;)
But quite a few answers were made. Finally we got who was in the coffin, more info about the Orchid Station, and a few other tidbits. But gotta be a big follower I guess to pick up on the subtleties. The writers piss me off, because their so damn good.

So when Ben moved the island he was transported to the desert, somewhere in the middle east, and about two years had passed (IIRC). That definitely shows that time travel was involved in the moving process, but I wish they would have explained how time travel was able to actually move it.

Whenever time travel is discussed, it should be remembered that time and space are closely related.

i'll admit I was too. Even without a cliffhanger, that alone would have made me happy for an ending. They have ended episodes before with simply a happy tie, like the episode where he makes contact with Penny... think that was The Constant?
Felt so happy for Desmond. That man has had a rough time and gone through some deep shit. Glad to see a happy 'ending' for a character, although I presume we'll see him again.

well see, we can't get too deep into these kinds of clues. At this point, the writings of Bentham alone basically some up a LOT of Lost... I have a feeling they'll take it a few other directions though.

Well there ARE two more seasons left. They can't answer all these questions.
But here's a snippet from an interview regarding past season questions and dropped clues:

What is the meaning or significance of the two skeletons that Jack and Kate found in the cave of season 1?
LINDELOF: There were certain things we knew from the very beginning. Independent of ever knowing when the end was going to be, we knew what it was going to be, and we wanted to start setting it up as early as season 1, or else people would think that we were making it up as we were going along. So the skeletons are the living ? or, I guess, slowly decomposing ? proof of that. When all is said and done, people are going to point to the skeletons and say, ''That is proof that from the very beginning, they always knew that they were going to do this.''

Wow was that a fucking episode. Penny and Desmond reuniting was awesome, as others have said. I thought it was gonna be Ben in that coffin but when I saw Locke, WAT!?

I give it a 9/10 rating. With more of Kate's ass or her naked, 9999999999999999/10.

Okay this is weird. I had a serious deja-vu moment when they were cutting the helicopter pilot's handcuffs then getting on the chopper. Did I just totally invent that or have we seen that scene before?

I'm assuming Sawyer was asking her to take care of or let his child know that he would have been there for him/her. Remember Sawyer conned that woman, who later became a con artist who Kate met and helped out while she was on the run back in the states. She was pregnant with his kid. Can't remember if he found out about the kid or not when Locke brought him in to kill Locke's dad(the one who originally conned Sawyers parents). Richard gave Locke a file on Sawyer, I'm guessing the part about him having a child might have been in there.

Hmm. They better not do something dumb like the skeletons are the bodies of Jake and Kate in the future.

I dunno why I just thought of that. Probably all this time travel stuff they're using now.

Richard gave Locke a file on Sawyer, I'm guessing the part about him having a child might have been in there.

I'm still trying to figure out Richard's roll in all of this. He seems like he'd be the next one to step up as leader, especially considering he hasn't aged in... ever. Well, more exact, I think he used time travel to go back to when Locke was born. But yeah, Richard is the second most interesting Others character at this point, as he's been there and been apart of so much.
I really want to know more about that black man who hired some of the freighter people, as well as convinced lock to go on a walk about. He seems to be playing the role of fate, getting all these people to the island for some reason, and the idea that none of the Oceanic 6 can return unless all of them are there, even though Locke's body also has to return.
And I'd love to find out a reason why/how the island was able to move like that. And why Ben couldn't return to the island afterward. I think after he moved it, is when he then appeared in the desert in that one scene.
The wormhole theory I've been reading about, all in connection to Jeremy Bentham, seems to be very plausible at this point, almost to the point of making sense. Even more interesting, is that theory was written back in 2007, I think only a little while after season 3 ended, when Bentham's name was first discovered.

But then Claire, in the dream, stating that Aaron should never return to the island (or did she say 'they', can't remember what exactly she said). That's also interesting.
Oh, and found an interesting tidbit: "The Island needs you. You have to go back before it's too late" is apparently what was said on the phone during Kate's dream, but that's when played backward, well, it was played backward on the phone, so corrected it would be the above quote. At least, according to lostpedia.com
