OMGWTFBBQ holy shit what an episode. They packed more into that hour than the first half of the third season. I can't believe they killed Alex, I figured he just stunned her or shot her with a tranqualizer. That was the captain from the freighter, right?

Great episode!

When Ben pulled the shotgun out of the piano bench I LOLed. When he killed the 2 dudes in the desert I was WOWed. When he bluffed and got his daughter killed I was all "You asshole!".

MOAR

MOAR SMOKE MONSTER!!!!

finally... took almost an entire 4 seasons to provide more insight into the beast.

anybody catch how there was some hieroglyphic-type writing on that cave door? Ben had some kind of control of it... I needs to know MOAR!!!! The smoke monster has a lot more depth in the story now... well I imagined it would (it's going to be a major theme of my final paper for my Critiquing TV writing class 😀), but finally they are alluding to a greater depth. Now, it's going to go slightly against the themes of my paper, since while it's still a mythical unknown, it seems to be able to be controlled. dammit. lol

ta-da!

I remember in an old episode, didn't Rousseau refer to the smoke monster as a "security system"? Anyone else remember that?

wow these commercials are ridiculous.

the first "segment" after the opening scene was 6 minutes, and this one was 4 minutes.

This is the only show I watch on TV for just that reason. Broadcast TV has really gone down the shitter.

Lost seems to be the worst show on any network for breaking to commercials more often. Very annoying, but that is what DVRs are for.

I was wondering if maybe Ben flicked the controls for the fence to shut it down and allow the smoke monster in.

The fence was already down, thats how all the people got in.

I remember someone referring to it as a security system. Maybe her.

No it wasnt the captain.

Originally i thought that the room was a way for Ben to somehow teleport himself to the past, killed the boat people, came back and then the smoke monster was essentially a worm hole fixing the current time. But i no longer think that.

Why do you no longer think that? It was actually my first impression as well.

The previews made it look like the boat guys are still alive.

Just the captain. And it's possible it's a shot from the boat, and not the island.

The leader of that merc group is definitely still alive though pretty sure a few if not all of his team became Smoked food. You could hear him shout "Pull back!" or something along those lines when the monster attacked.

Yea im still on the fence with it. I think its becoming obvious though that time stands still on the island.

Not still... but not the same as off the island. When Ben checked into the hotel he asked the date.. including the year. Also when the two AK-47 toting guys came up on Ben he was wearing a parka and look slightly disoriented as if he just appeared there. I know he told Sayid that he came via fiji blah blah... but I think something else is up.

Great episode!

Lots of ties in to make some sense out of the madness.
How Sawyer lived and those three others died so easily was pretty bad.

Well it could be just moving slower. Who knows. I think Ben can teleport into the future as well from his room but i cant tell for sure.

The doctor was dead... In the future (on the island)... So when the call was made to the ship, he was still alive which is why the response was "he's fine"...

But all other indications are that time is slower on the island. Remember the test rocket? Mayeb the people on the ship were trying to cover up something that had happened.

He wasn't bluffing. He thought they would adhere to the rule which most likely was "don't mess with family." Which was why he was so shocked when he actually shot her.

I guess the lowly merc guy didn't get the note...

I think they filling in all of the plot inconsistencies with a whole time-travel thing. I keep getting answers, but I think I preferred when I didn't have them.

One of the best episodes of the season so far. Ben was excellent. I was actually mildly surprised to see his 'daughter' die. Pretty cool collapsible baton.

Does it seem to anyone else like the episodes are getting shorter, aka more commercials ?
I recorded it then watched it on the dvr and fast forwarded the commercials, and it seemed like I was doing more fast forwarding than watching.

I think time only changes when something travels into, or out of, the island. Ben showed Jack that the Red Sox won the World Series and the time fit with how long they've been on the island. Or, assuming it wasn't pretaped, Ben also showed Juliet her sister's child live and about at the age it should have been.
