I don't think they abandoned anything. The fake plane isn't a new idea. Its actually been mentioned in previous seasons. Its not going anywhere.

i don't remember the fake crashed plane they found being mentioned in the earlier seasons.

i know they jump around like jack rabbits on crack, but i figured they'd give that a little more closure or something. or at least a mention.

I'm trying to remember the exact incident but in a previous season one character said that he saw them (the oceanic survivors) dead. That their plane had been found and there were no survivors. Thats one of the reasons why everyone was talking about the purgatory idea.

I'm thinking its a Hollow Earth theory, not Purgatory....

i was under the impression they were just assuming they were dead, like people who disappear and after a certain amount of time they are presumed dead. maybe they did mention it and i forgot tho.

Well they found a plane that was set up to look like it was Oceanic 815 by someone. I think it was Locke's dad (IE: the *real* Sawyer) who told them that in an earlier episode. Told them all the bodies had been found and eveerything like that which is why he though they were in hell.

And then there were the Oceanic Six. I wonder if Aaron counts...he made it off the island but he wasn't on the flight manifest I would assume (since he wasn't born yet). Or not?

That was my thought as well. Especially after they showed the helicopter pilot on the phone saying that wasnt the real pilot.

most likely scenario seems to be that Claire is either going to die or she decided (or had to?) stay on the island for some reason but wanted Aaron to grow up in the "real" world.

my money's on death, but maybe that's a red herring.

I thought I heard the kid's name was Eric, and due to the blonde hair I immediately thought it was Kate and Sawyer's kid.
I wonder what Jack knows/thinks.. does he think it's her and Sawyer's kid, and thus doesn't really want to see the kid? Or, does he know it's Claire's kid and doesn't want to be reminded of her likely not making it off the island?

And what's up with the story of 8 surviving the crash at first? Are there actually more than 6 survivors but they are somewhere else?

Good episode. Totally caught me by surprise at the end revealing that Kate has Aaron. I was wondering too why Jack had such a problem with Kate having the kid. There must be something bad that happens to make him act like that. I don't think Kate would steal Claire's baby, just doesn't seem like she would do that. I'm thinking Claire dies because her giving up Aaron and staying on the island doesn't make sense cause she'd want to raise him you'd think.

I'm interested to see what happens to Jack to make him turn into how he was in the season three finale, all strung out on booze and painkillers.

There are a number of possibilities:

1. Kate had Sawyer's kid and named it Aaron in honor of Claire's kid.
2. Kate took Aaron as her own because Claire was killed.
3. Claire gave Aaron to Kate because Kate was able to leave the island and Claire was not.
4. Kate stole Aaron from Claire.

As for Jack's story, it was completely fabricated. From the scene in the parking garage after Kate signs the deal with the DA, we learned that this is not the first time Jack has told the story. My guess is that the "Oceanic 6" made up a story about what happened on the island so that people would not ask questions as to why only 6 of them made it off and the rest were left behind.

My wife and I were commenting that the actress (Evangeline Lilly) definitely has "classic" beauty. She looks good even without makeup on the island, but really blows you away when she's "done up".

not really, Ben could was never on the flight, he could lie to say he was, but we don't know yet...so all we have are 5 of the 6...Ben is very much unknown.

Garner sympathy for the defendant.

I don't know if Ben counts as one of the "Oceanic 6", as he wasn't on the plane. Aaron may or may not be the 5th person. We need to confirm that he's Claire's kid first.
