I remember timing ER to see how much I could capture and fit on a disc, after taking out commercials i was left with roughly 43 to 45 minutes of video.

Didn't the writers say there was a scientific explanation for everything on the island...including the black smoke? If so, I can't wait to see how they explain what happened to Ecko.

Didn't you hear the chain noises? The smoke could simply be produced by the machine. If there were outlets for the smoke along the chain/machine, you wouldn't actually see th machine.

And remember, it is part of the islands security device. Mr Patch face could be the one controllign the security system...

I heard the chain type noises as well. But in any case, how the hell would a machine move that fast? Not only did it all of the sudden come up on Ecko but it got away real fast.

And how does the machine manifest itself as his brother, and communicate with him?

Great episode

Nanobots, my friend....nanobots.

i dont even care about the show now. im watching it to keep track of how often they put commercials on

i watched it on ABC.com this morning as i worked last night.

anyway, lost is no different in length for scheduled programming without commercials 43 minutes as any of the other ABC shows. you guys are just nuts that keep going on and on about length of commercials etc.

I think that the show is just so good that the 43 minutes go by so fast and you notice the 17 minutes of commercials. If it was a boring show, you probobly wouldn't think there were so many commercials.

 I agree 100%.

Alright, I'm no botanist, but were those poppy plants that Ecko was talking to his brother amongst?

The red flower ones? I believe they were some kind of bromeliad.

I'm confused now about who his brother was really.

It could be Red Ginger plants. Very common in Hawaii

Like I said, I'm not a botanist. It just seemed like something the writers would do since it was opium (I think) that Ecko was smuggling.

Everyone who comes into these threads and posts that the show has too many commercials or too many unanswered questions should politely STFU. Nobody who likes the show cares or wants to hear your opinion. You are simply wasting bandwith by posting. There already exist several "Why I hate LOST" threads so go post there for god sakes.

As I was watching I was thinking of many biblical similarities but couldn't piece it together in a 100% coherent manner.

Eko's brother as Jesus/God... His body has dissappeared... He is manifested again...Judgement day w/ Fire and kills Eko.

Anyone?

I was just going to post that!

but the problem was, Eko didn't solve/fix his problems. he did not apologize to his brother, rather, he said he was proud of it. because of this the smoke monster attacked and killed him.

He said he felt that he was doing what he had to do to survive.

Yeah...and did you notice how they rolled the stone away from the opening to the plane...sort of like how the stone was rolled away from the opening to Jesus' tomb.

Everyone says this yet it makes no sense. Because if you go download the torrent, you will see it's 43 minutes long, just like every single TV show there is that runs now (Grey's Anatomy, 24, etc.) and all 3 seasons of Lost have roughly the same length episodes.

Thus, what the hell are you guys talking about?

he's a retard.

The reason the commercials bug people is the way they do them. The first segment of the show is long, then a commercial break, then the remaining segments get progressively shorter. They are trying to create suspense after hooking you on the initial segment. It's irritating, but apparently it works!

Who even watches live TV anymore. If you have a PVR or TIVO this shouldnt even be an issue. If you don't, get with the program and get one...heck, even your computer should be able to do this.
Just start watching it a half later and you won't catch up with the commercials.

Maybe his problem was the guilt he bore for those acts, thus being haunted by their dead image.

At the end, he had shed that guilt.

I agree with that.. his problem was that he was holding everythign in.. that's why he was building the church.. cause he owed it to his brother, but after talking to his "brother" he repented essentially...

and i totally got the jesus vibe.. i was just waiting for a burning bush...

and i thought those were opium plants too... i think that lady is oen of the good others, and ben is a bad guy.. he obviously treats the survivors piss poorly.. of course that could all just be a rouse

Burning bush was moses I thought. If I knew christianity more fully I'd have a much mopre articulate metaphor for this episode.

That sucks about Eko. They don't have many young strong guys left now.

By the way, when those two new people went on the expedition I was like "uhoh, I that new guy is gonna get it. they don't show him and all of a sudden his girlfriend wants to go on an adventure. the last "new guy" got himself blown up with dynamite".

So is the lady a good Other and Ben is a bad other? Are they both good others...are they both bad others? Is she bad and Ben is actually good?

Does anybody else think Juliette plays her role well? You really want to like and trust her b/c she seems so sweet and honest, yet very pretty like a lady next door.
