I remember timing ER to see how much I could capture and fit on a disc, after taking out commercials i was left with roughly 43 to 45 minutes of video.

Didn't the writers say there was a scientific explanation for everything on the island...including the black smoke? If so, I can't wait to see how they explain what happened to Ecko.
Didn't you hear the chain noises? The smoke could simply be produced by the machine. If there were outlets for the smoke along the chain/machine, you wouldn't actually see th machine.
And remember, it is part of the islands security device. Mr Patch face could be the one controllign the security system...
I heard the chain type noises as well. But in any case, how the hell would a machine move that fast? Not only did it all of the sudden come up on Ecko but it got away real fast.
And how does the machine manifest itself as his brother, and communicate with him?
Great episode

i dont even care about the show now. im watching it to keep track of how often they put commercials on
i watched it on ABC.com this morning as i worked last night.
anyway, lost is no different in length for scheduled programming without commercials 43 minutes as any of the other ABC shows. you guys are just nuts that keep going on and on about length of commercials etc.
I think that the show is just so good that the 43 minutes go by so fast and you notice the 17 minutes of commercials. If it was a boring show, you probobly wouldn't think there were so many commercials.

Alright, I'm no botanist, but were those poppy plants that Ecko was talking to his brother amongst?
The red flower ones? I believe they were some kind of bromeliad.
I'm confused now about who his brother was really.

It could be Red Ginger plants. Very common in Hawaii

Like I said, I'm not a botanist. It just seemed like something the writers would do since it was opium (I think) that Ecko was smuggling.Originally posted by: wyvrn

but the problem was, Eko didn't solve/fix his problems. he did not apologize to his brother, rather, he said he was proud of it. because of this the smoke monster attacked and killed him.

As I was watching I was thinking of many biblical similarities but couldn't piece it together in a 100% coherent manner.
Eko's brother as Jesus/God... His body has dissappeared... He is manifested again...Judgement day w/ Fire and kills Eko.
Anyone?

Everyone says this yet it makes no sense. Because if you go download the torrent, you will see it's 43 minutes long, just like every single TV show there is that runs now (Grey's Anatomy, 24, etc.) and all 3 seasons of Lost have roughly the same length episodes.
Thus, what the hell are you guys talking about?

Maybe his problem was the guilt he bore for those acts, thus being haunted by their dead image.
At the end, he had shed that guilt.
