That's what I figured. They wouldn't actually let us figure out that mystery so soon. The timer story will keep on for another season or so.

The new guy is definitely an Other.

No new Lost AGAIN next week. My Tivo only goes up until two Tuesdays from now, but I know that next Wed. they are showing the Pilot again. I'm not sure whats going on the Wed. after that, though.
 
they are ruining jacks character this season. they have been turning him careless and not a risk taker unlike he was in the 1st season.

I liked this episode. Getting back on track with the plot ever so slowly, but I'm pretty frustrated that there's some things in limbo that shouldn't be. Where the heck did the guy in the hatch run off to? Why is Rousseau not hanging out with the rest of the people now? I mean you're all alone on an island for who know's how long and you find a group of like 30 people and you don't want to join forces or anything??? Why isn't anyone exploring the island more? Hey lets all sit on the beach where we landed. They made such a strong case for a lot of these characters and they aren't playing much of a role in the plot.

I realize that if they solve the mysteries the show's over, but only getting one little nugget every few episodes is painful. Nonetheless, I'm hooked and will keep watching.

I've looked up the characters from the timer.

There are 5 characters, the 2nd is not shown to us.

The first is S.
The fourth is A.
The third and fifth are not valid characters in any translations I can find.
 
It looked like each symbol was a dharma station symbol. It sounded like each station was powering up, ready to complete some sequence. Once each station was powered up and gtg, it's symbol flashed ready. Perhaps the other 2 that didn't show are offline, like where the tail section people were staying.

I thought that they went to a commercial for COD2 or something. It was horrible.
 
It sounded like something was spooling up, possibly a jet engine (on a missile?). A rocket would have just blown out of there, so I'm not sure I could say it's a missle launch sequence but I'm not that familiar with missiles...
