I have been working out hard (2 hours of cardio for 5 days a week) and since the last couple of weeks. I have lost close to 5 pounds and I can feel the difference. Clothes fit a lot better. Sense increased levels of energy. I feel fresh for the whole day.

My goal is to lose 20 pounds in 2 months.. but I just feel great today!!! :D

Thanks for the unknown encouragement, I plan on starting my HIIT regimen today. I don't even need to lose weight...

I'm starting a diet/excersize (sp) program this week... I just can't figure out how to cook healthy while maintaining an appropriate level of laziness (I hate having to wash dishes. lol. makes cooking a problem)

I could run for 2 miles on the treadmill wyesterday without a break.

I've been working out for ~6 weeks and I've gained 5 lbs!

But then again, I'm weight-lifting for muscle mass. ;)

Though I weight around 200 pounds, my gym instructor says that my cardio vascular fitness level is excellent.

See, I'm doing the opposite. I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but I was thinking that maybe the additional muscle mass would speed up my aerobic weight-loss.

So yeah, right now I have some broader shoulders, bigger biceps, and still this cubicle-worker's mini-gut.

I get this sometimes too. Usually I absolutely hate running, but every now and then I'll have this random day where I can just keep running forever without getting tired. I usually think to myself, wow this running thing isn't so bad. Then I try it again a day or two later and can't make it a half mile before I say screw this.

i have to hit the cardio a bit harder as ive been concentrating way to much on weight training

in the span of two years, i've lost about 70 pounds, going from a hefty 220lbs to my present 150lbs. i'm 5' 10", and my body fat % right now is around 7%. i lost the fat, and then i put on some muscle, and i'm in the process of getting cut. i actually have a nice 4 pack now.

i basically stopped eating fast food, soda, and anything that is unhealthy cold turkey. i eat often in moderation, and my metabolism has steadilty increased. i exercise an hour everyday, alternating high intensitity cardio (3 mile sprint/jog in 21 mins), abs, and weights targeting basic muscle groups. becoming fit and lean is the best thing i have ever done for myself. i had to study alot of nutrition and exercise trivia myself, but in the end it was really worth it, not just for my own self image, but for the future of my health.

cliffs: i'd say 2 keys to losing weight are eating right (often stated but rarely followed) and running alot (high intensity cardio).

@ Maximus: If you can train for 2 hours of cardio for 5 days a week, you need to up the intensity of your workout since you are training for weight loss, not long distance running. Ideally you should be training for 45 minutes to an Hour the absolute max for cardio. 30 minutes of high intensity cardio does a worlds better than 2 hours of slow jogging on a treadmill. Don't listen to that low intensity fat burning zone BS, because that is complete crap, it's only total calories burned that matters. Not to mention 2 hours of cardio (not long distance running) for 5 days a week is going to land you in the doctors office with an injury. You also need to do weight training, you cannot expect to lose all the weight and then build muscle, because right now those 5lbs were water weight and muscle mass. Burning weight off extremely quickly without the proper amount of calories burns muscle like crazy, and you will be left extremely weak in the weight room. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I gaurantee you can get better results doing it another way. If you are interested feel free to PM me and I can help you out, but its all about losing weight slowly while building up resistance.

@CKGunslinger, you are going about it the right way, just remember you are going to need to cut eventually, as you cannot build muscle and burn fat at the same time. One or the other, so be ready to do some cardio soon to get rid of that gut. ;)

It's due to the fact you probably got the right amount of rest and carbs before cardio. if you get your nutrition down to a science, you can get those days every day, so you can always be training at a 100% of your max, effort wise.

and not only just calories burned are important - you need to increase your metabolism. eat less but more often, and run harder and faster in less time. look up info on HIIT workouts. 3000 calories = 1 lb of fat.

You are already "cut" if you are at 7% body fat, but if you want muscle as I believe is what you want, then you need to do a bulking phase. With all that running and not the proper of cardio, you will never get your definition of "cut", of course without anabolics which is besides the point.

Congrats though on your progress! :)

Thank you captain obvious, but HIIT workouts are not the best thing to do for his goal. HIIT workouts (and even then they aren't used because they are outdated and more for n00bs) are for a cutting period, mostly for a desperate last cut before a compeition.

Also many confuse this 6 meals a day thing, you still need big meals before and after exerciseing for energy, and to grow. Also a meal can be a protein shake, simple as that.

It must be that. I thought I was down to a pretty good schedule of what I was eating at the time. It was pretty much the same thing at the same time every day. But I don't remember if I had a random whatever that gave me all the extra energy.

Yep, find what works best for you. Try some gatorade before cardio, or maybe a more slow acting GI carb to last throughout your workout.
