He lost potential money just like the RIAA claims 😀 j/k
I guess you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to how much these things normally go.

Whatever, I don't need to get grilled from a bunch of dumbasses on a forum. I know I should have set a reserve price or a higher starting bid, but even so, it should have never went for that price.

i don't understand how you can say it should have never gone for that price when you put it up for auction? the end price of an auction is what people bid, not what you want it to go for. if you wanted that, you would have put it at a higher price or set a reserve.
i don't understand the bitching and moaning when you still made a profit.

if you actually took a loss, then i would be more understanding but you would have still been a moron for not setting a reserve or higher starting bid.

i would consider yourself lucky
Problem I see with that one is that he didn't have a picture with the items included. I normally don't even look at an auction if it doesn't have the items included in the picture... takes too much time to read to see what they've included.

Plus I should have never actually had the auction end on a wednesday night... I'll just have things end on weekends or something...

well your ending time wasn't that great ...

you ended it at 9PM PST on a Wednesday night. Now that's midnight for us east coasters, and people work the next day. So I think a lot of your low ending bid had to do with the ending time.

Oh I'm sorry mr. magical know it all on behalf of ebay. Do you have anymore advice for me in the future besides telling me that making $10 on something is so great and that I should put a reserve or higher starting price? If not then STFU and go piss off someone else. I think I can bitch and moan all I want considering the damn thing went far below the average selling price for the particular item.

If you knew the kind of sh!t I've dealt with on ebay with dishonest people and unsettling sellers who pull crap you'd hope to get more money out of things too. When I bought this thing it was in "mint condition" and it was supposed to work and only have a bad battery. It had more than a bad battery and it was scratched to hell as well as opened.

But hey, if you want to start up your own ebay stuff buying and selling stuff then go ahead, tell me it isn't stressful or disappointing when things like this happen.

I think $13 is a bit high for shipping of a bare ipod + charger/cable. Can't be the insurance as you're only insuring for less than $150. Did it come with 2 day delivery or something and you didn't mention it?

that's my observation.

To be honest, shipping with ups or fedex I actually spend close to what I charge...

I shipped fedex to PA once for an ipod mini which should weigh less than this item, and it cost me $15.50, just ground, nothing fancy.

Since this particular item is also going to PA, I'll probably get screwed on the shipping as well. Oh joy!

wow, you don't understand how auctions work and now you charge a flat shipping rate when you know it costs more than that to ship it.

should you really be using Ebay?

I would have to ship with USPS or UPS all the time if I wanted to use the calculated shipping crap on ebay. I like to ship fedex when possible, so I just charge a flat fee.

And you really are an asshole pontifex. I've been doing this a long time (trading and whatnot, not only on ebay but with other members on anandtech and on other sites as well) and I'm an honest guy who's never screwed anyone over. If you want to go rag on someone, find some of the people who screwed me over on microdrives or DOA ipod mini parts. It's not all about the items you're selling, it's about the items you've bought that didn't work and you can't get reimbursed from them, so you hope it comes from another source. I was hoping this would be a good money maker, but obviously I was wrong and obviously you're here to point that out and be an asshole while doing it. Go bug someone else, as you obviously live a perfect life and nothing has ever went wrong.

I always wondered about doing that, does it actually work?

Yeah, unless they watch their feedback like a hawk and notice the negative before the end of the 89th day.

No, it DOES NOT work. ebay states that they only GUARANTEE the listing to be up for feedback for 90 days. Many times, the listing is still there long afterwards. I've seen auctions still listed that were 6 months old. I've left feedback for auctions 4 months later.

This is an old wive's tale that has been perpetuated for so long, it should be on snopes

i'm sorry, where did i say you were a dishonest seller? stop bitching about losing money when you made a profit then. jesus christ, you keep whining about it. if you're such an experienced seller, this shouldn't have happened. i'm sure its probably not the 1st time something like this happened either. learn from this and stop bitching about it. its that simple.

It looks like a bad title to me. If I was looking for an iPod I probably wouldn't even click.

Looks like you're selling a 30GB HDD, iPod Case, and an iPod cable.

There's your probably OP, you're to honest. Just slap a flat shipping rate of $45 on there and you'll be all set. 😛

it's a bad business attempting to make a profit on selling used electronics

you should have probably added '3rd gen' to your auction title. i think a lot of people viewed your auction by typing in "ipod 30GB", but weren't looking for such an old model, and were not interested. people who buy 3rd gens usually are looking specifically for them

And it ended on a wednesday at midnight EST. It's better to end it on Sunday evening.

Well, look at it this way, you made some other person very happy, maybe they'll pull you out of a river some day.
:sun:

Start ending your auctions on Thursdays and Sundays........esp. Sundays. Those two days seem to eek out better prices than closing on any other days, from what I've seen over the years.

LOL sorry about that... i bought my gf a 4GB mini for 180 and sold it on ebay for a sweet 170 dollars after using it for 18 months (with a case that i bought extra but saved the adapter)
