Youtube tracks by account. I have two different Google Accounts on PC, and they each get different recommended videos, and If I open a browser with no account, it gets a different set of recommended videos.

Can't be solely by account, because I've never had a YouTube account (and only for a short while had a Gmail account), but YouTube definitely makes recommendations based on previous viewings (at the moment it's all "maritime disasters"!).

I discovered long ago that it wasn't by cookies either (as deleting them made no difference), and somewhere heard that it's actually by IP address, which is the only other explanation sans either an account or cookies.

I daresay if you actually have an account, it goes by that. But otherwise it seems they track your IP address.

YT absolutely does use IP's and browser-history to track you .... AND anything else they can get their grimey mitts on! ;) (they can just track you WAY better with you signed in to your account too!)

I've simply decided to welcome Big-Brother into my life and embrace dystopia ... you CAN'T beat them so might as well join them!

Well I guess in a way I'm glad they do? I got a good laugh out of all of this and now I know about a great Xmas gift idea. There are several others too. This is the positive outcome I needed for this depressing ass thread

Obligatory Sorry OP! No more unrelated posts from me promise.

The forty-five minutes to clean your room would be worth it. :p

I just did a test. I have watched an insane amount of Sub videos this week in my browser.

I fired up MS Edge, which I don't actually use and it's not associated to an account and will have no youtube cookies. clicked on Youtube, and went to a video that had nothing to do with subs. It was a trailer for the Netflix show Witcher.

I checked the recommended videos. The first 30 were all related to that one click. All movie/Tv related.

The first non related one was a sports channel called "Bleacher Report" with some basketball content, Which I have never been to before, and I have ZERO interest in Basketball, and then it returns to movie/TV traillers.

Basically it only recommended based on that one click and nothing else. It has nothing to go on.

Furthermore, this says it bases recommendations on your account, and on cookies when not signed in:

Though in this specific case. The "What is Female Eja..." video is the same channel as the Sub video, and it's the source of the recommendation.

I actually thought it was me too for second, but then I was like, wtf that's not my kink. On youtube too? Then I see overbuilt motorized NERF dart gun videos are next, and now I think I understand. Embarrassing pre teen son talk inbound in 3...2....1....

can you post a video?

Just install a random "new-to-you" browser ... doesn't matter much which one. (I suggest Vivaldi)

Don't import or sign into anything just go straight to Youtube .... you most likely won't recognize it compared to your primary account home page.

HOWEVER there will still be some tracking going on unless as I mentioned previously you use a good VPN too.

Saying they're fishfood isn't apparently an insult but reality..

This is the best explanation of what happened so far. I was also wondering about the human remains. Well, it's good they didn't even feel it, but it's kinda scary to die in such an instant way

Err instant is better than a long slow death.

Exactly. It was a horror show just thinking of them potentially sitting trapped on the bottom with no running water or bathroom facilities(surrounded by your own wastes), declining oxygen and sinking temperatures... It's like slowly suffocating in an outhouse with no way out.

I was relieved when I heard they basically imploded right away when they lost contact.

Why is the US Coast Guard doing the investigation? I could understand helping in a potential rescue, but they should drop out after that point.

Why do we have coast guard icebreakers? Why do they go to Antarctica?

The Navy is the military arm. Do you suspect armed combatants attacked the sub?
Which foreign government were they working for?
