They still haven't found it yet but I hope they do. There's a guy abroad who's been on more than 35 dives to the Titanic wreck site before so they definitely do have experienced people on board.

I do not understand why people are not happy with remote submersibles with 4k cameras showing the Titanic? They've mapped the Titanic and created 3D renderings as well. Why would anybody go down that far on a civilian funded mission? This whole thing looks like a Darwin award winning operation.

All the experience in the world can't do anything when faced with a serious technical malfunction. They really should have had the sub tethered to a really strong and long cable with which they could communicate with the ship on the surface so they could get pulled in, in case of emergency.

Supposedly (not confirmed) the passengers are:

Hamish Harding - a British billionaire businessman based in the United Arab Emirates

Paul-Henri Nargeolet - a diver who has led several expeditions to the Titanic and supervised the recovery of many artifacts from the wreck

Shahzada Dawood - a Pakistani businessman
Sulaiman Dawood - son of Shahzada

Here's the thing. Shahzada Dawood is a trustee of the SETI Institute and you know that means. ALIENS! ALIENS did it. :D

A steel cable as you suggest would weigh around 1 pound per foot or more, or more than 6 tons, so not feasible.

They're all paying to peer out of that tiny porthole on the front? Seems like you couldn't even see through that as well as you could with an ROV covered in cameras. This kinda boils down to the same kind of argument as to whether manned space flight is worth it. When we can do almost all the same science with probes, and at none of the risk.

Apart from it looking like something a DIYer cobbled together in their back yard, the fact that there's no locator beacon or tether and they bolt you in from the outside gets a big ol' nope from me.
