Looks like Seal Team 6 did it again...

confirmed SEAL team 6?

It is CNN...so who knows how good the facts are...but the article says the following...

SEALs were only part of the special forces team, the official said. Pentagon spokesman Little said the rescue team included special operations troops from different branches of the military but would not specify which branches.

and...

The SEALs are part of a unit officially called the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, formerly known as SEAL Team Six.

I dunno... the article doesn't say definitively it was team 6 did it? The part I read is that SEALs from the same unit as the one that killed Bin Laden which is ambiguous it enough to mean anything. I wouldn't be too happy if I were a SEAL and team 6 was given credit for it. They all train hard to do their missions, don't take it away just to sensationalize the story.

The quote I posted in the post directly above yours states that they were from the unit that was formally called Seal Team Six. Now whether CNN has their facts straight is a whole other argument.

Only minutes after concluding his high-profile speech, the president telephoned Buchanan's father at 10:32 p.m. to inform him of the mission's success, Carney said.

John Buchanan told CNN he was "flabbergasted" when Obama called up out of the blue.

"It was pretty overwhelming. He said, 'John, this is Barack Obama. I'm calling because I have great news for you. Your daughter has been rescued by our military.'

That's pretty fucking cool too.

US military raid in Somalia frees American, Dane

President Barack Obama authorized the mission by SEAL Team 6 two days earlier, deploying the same unit that killed Osama bin Laden last year.

Yea I saw that, doesn't matter, SEALS are badass as it is... cept maybe for that one who shot himself in the head. I just don't want some stupid journalist to take credit away from other SEALS that weren't in the Bin Laden raid by wording it with the notion that it was exactly the same team that did all of this but at the same time avoiding saying it directly so to cover his own ass.

first of all, why would SealTeam 6 risk their lives for 2 humanitarians? does not compute. why not send SealTeam 9 who sits around and doesn't do shit? what were these two doing in Somalia anyway? probably nothing at all, no harm, no danger. fly right in and pick their lanky asses up and go home. yawn. next

Your navy is badass

Was probably one of their easier missions this. 9 Hostage takers in Somalia all 9 killed. Luckily not much resistance there only if they can stop them getting millions of dollars on see as well.

But they are one of the best Spec forces in the world and its good to see they make it safe back. No amount of cash can replace a human life and in hostage taking when one of the good guys get killed everyone starts to look at it as failed and so on

Panetta stressed the rescue was a team effort and required close coordination between the Defense Department and the FBI. “They are heroes and continue to inspire all of us by their bravery and service to our nation,” Panetta wrote.

Every branch of the military has special forces units.

yeah, the CNN article does point this out: special forces involved, including from several military branches. Members of DevGRO, the same unit that performed the raid in Abottabad were also involved in the assault.

It also made it clear that there was no confirmation that members involved in Abottabad assault were also involved int his one.

It must suck to be from a country whose leaders and military don't care about the safety of its own civilians.

🙁

SealTeam 6 is a highly specialized group, an elite team that took out Bin Laden. Why risk that talent on small potatoes? that is all i am saying. send in a different seal team.

This. They're certainly no SAS, but they could have sent in one of the lesser elite units to kill a bunch of spray 'n pray somali pirates.

well, I haven't seen any report that details how many of what group were involved. For all we know, there were maybe 2 members of 6 coordinating the mission from a bunker. Consider it training for the other groups?

No, not training--I bet they take this type of mission as seriously as they take any other mission. Seriously, though: why not send your best whenever you can? This is a mission to rescue hostages of two nations. To think this isn't risky or merely a simple cake walk for these guys is profoundly asinine.

There was another raid a while back where a SEAL team went in and botched the job when someone (SEAL) fragged the hostage. Don't think it was Team 6 that time...

*sigh here we go with whose special forces is the best and who would have done it with 1 man and chuck norris could've done it alone etc etc.

A Squad is how many men? 2 4 or 6 8 20? If a squad is 6 why would they sent in 4? To show they got more balls? In movies yes but not in real life
