I have decent vision... my last prescription was -0.075 for each eye with astigmatism i think in each.

I am 30 and my vision has not declined much in the last couple years. So I was thinking, since I have had such crap luck with Lensecrafters and their lenses falling apart after a year, that I would try Lasik.

Here's where things get a little mysterious. How much does this type of surgery cost? Does Lasik often not get covered under vision or dental or health coverage?

Anyone who has Lasik'ed care to comment on the experience?

Thanks and happy holidays.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm -0.50 in one eye and -1.25 in the other. I'm planning on getting PRK in the worse eye and leaving the other one alone assuming my prescription doesn't change in the next year or two.

Since nobody else wanted to give you an answer, I will.

Surgery cost (for me) was be anywhere from ~$1,500.00 - $4,000.00 or so. I ended up spending a little more than $3,000.00. I went to two different centers to get "quotes" and pick the doctor's brain. No, it usually isn't covered by insurance.

DO NOT CHEAP OUT FOR YOUR SURGERY.

The experience: weirdest thing I've ever done. They cut a flap in your eye while you're awake... it's just odd. I was there for an hour or so, went home, slept for 3 hours, woke up and could read the clock for the first time in probably 15 years.

IMO, it is the best money I have ever spent. I had slight dryness in one eye for 2-3 weeks after, which sucked, but have no issues currently.

I've had glasses since a little kid and they don't really bother me enough to risk completely destroying my night vision. I'm going to hold out for technological developments that will allow >20/20 without cutting a flap, either that or cloning me some new eyes.

I had it done about.. 6 or 7 years ago? Went from being basically blind (Everything was blurry), to 20/25. I had an astigmatism as well. Best thing I've ever done or had done to me. Unlike my friends who were slightly nearsighted, I was unable to see anything within reason for the first 36 hours due to the amount of correction I had done. Dr. John Doan in Leawood did it for me and he is a one of the big guys in eye surgery. After 36 hours, I was able to see a bit better but still had blurry vision. I kept it wet with drops and finally it stopped itching after a week. All of this was normal for someone with bad vision like I had. With contacts, I always had dry eyes and it was very painful to remove my contacts at night. I see well now and dont have dry eyes. Very very very satisfied with the procedure. I paid $4500.00 for both eyes.
