I have been at the gym for a few years working with my trainer (the gym I go to is program based only so the trainer comes with the gig) and I finally decided to take the meal plan plunge. He laughed at me as he knows my love of cheese, pop, and pizza but said I could do it in a month. I'm trying to cut 10-15lbs off my frame to get down to a healthy 6' 185, any lower and I'll start loosing too much bulk. At the end of the 5 weeks I'm doing a body flush... can't wait for that, yikes!

Anyway, this meal plan has alot of chicken and lean red meat and while I love both, they could use a little spicing up. I'm currently using some recipes I found for the steaks that involve some olive oil, lemon juice, spices, and a little worshy sauce but that is getting old. Does anyone have any good suggestions on marinades or rubs that are lowish in sodium? They don't have to be salt free, just lighter than the typical 1/2 cup soy sauce... 😉

I'm also interesting in any suggestions for chicken marinades/rubs. I have some garlic lovers garlic (great stuff) that is fun to use but I don't want to wear out on that.

And for those in the know, does a burbon based marinade work? I have made it in the past and love the flavor but I'm not sure how my makers mark or evan williams falls in terms of healthyness for a marinade.

Thanks!

Orange juice is a pretty easy and legitimate marinade in itself. Anything utilizing citrus is usually pretty potent and delicious. Mix that with some spices and you're good to go.

Isn't OJ pretty high in sugar? And do you use the from concentrate or out of a carton?

We bought a two pack of the lemon juice bottles from Costco since citrus works so well but completely forgot about orange juice...

Out of the carton for sure. And it's not that high in sugar. Not that much is actually going to absorb into the meat - just amounts for flavor. Plus sugar from juice is way better than sugar from any other synthetic source.

Perfect, thanks, I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Any other suggestions?
