Can anyone suggest some good scary movies to watch with my gf? She doesn't like slasher movies but we both enjoy spooky thrillers.

Poltergeist, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, etc.

I remember not being able to swim in a pool for weeks after seeing Poltergeist as a kid. Yikes.

I saw Paranomal Activity recently. Good idea but the acting was so bad. Dark Floors was ok. I'll try Dead End and The Orphan - thanks

Yeh, i still rate the Omen (which is similar) as one of the scariest movies I have seen (dated now). Alien is up there for its 'dont look behind you' moments

Not liking slasher flicks makes it hard.. I suggest:

[Rec]
The Orphanage
The Mist
Let the Right One In

There's also a Spanish one that I can't remember right now. About a couple in a house and they are haunted by something and they don't know what.

In the same vein as the Orphan, try Joshua as well. The Mist is also pretty good horror, and everyone loves the ending.

None of these I think are actually scary though. Give 1408 a watch if you want something that gets close to actual scares.

Orphan was good (IE: the orphan good was one awesome actress) but the scary parts leave something to be desired.

THIS.

I'm a horror movie junkie and I haven't seen anything close to good recently. 1408 wasn't bad and kind of fits into what you are looking for.

oh i didnt say horror movies aren't GOOD, i just said they aren't scary :p

i still love me horror movies, even if they suck! i am still entertained.

like saw 6 was terrible, but i still enjoyed it.

The Orphanage (not the orphan, which was entertaining but not very spooky)
Pan's Labyrinth
The Devil's Backbone

Paranormal Activity was just dull to me, so I wouldn't recommend that.

Really, the best scary movie ever in my opinion was The Thing. It's almost 30 years old, but if you haven't seen it I recommend it.

Dude he's watching this with his girlfriend. This is more sick than horror though.

As for Pan's Labyrinth - good movie, but it's not really horror. From this year, I don't think there's anything significant. Hrmm...yeah not really much these days that is more emphasis on spooky than blood.

Oooh didn't notice "Let the Right One In" recommendation. Depending on where you get it, the subs might be massively messed up. I don't remember if they fixed this shit or not though. That aside, LTROI I don't really consider to be horror, but it's a good movie. Yeah the no slasher requirement makes this super hard.

If you haven't already seen it, "The Descent" would be perfect. Your GF will be holding on tight. (Or vice-versa)

Movie is about a group of women who go caving and bad things happen. It is NOT a teen slasher flick.

I'll echo The Descent and [Rec] (not Quarantine, that was a piece of shit).

How about Let the Right One In or Inside (À l'intérieur).

Funny how 3 of the 4 I listed are foreign films. North America cannot seem to make a decent horror film anymore. Le sigh. :\
