So far I have come up with 2 but even they are now failing.

1. The Pontiac solstice
Pro. very low cost (MSRP), looks great, and great engine.
Con. Don;t know when they will be here, cost (dealers will mark up at first), only manual at first, and its not a hard top.

2. chrysler crossfire
Pro. Looks good, hard top, has automatic, and last year of the 7/70K warrenty.
Con. They raised the price for 2005, german reliability, and automatic cost more.

I thought I could get a crossfire for around $27K at the end of the year. But that was based on last years price/deals and not sure there will be a large enough cash back to offset this years price.

So what cars are 2 door/seater, sporty, really nice, and cost less then 30K? She only wants 2 seats so this is not easy. Also she is 5foot 90pounds, so nothing to big as she needs to be able to see out the thing. :p Oh and no used cars. Already tried. cough Corvette cough :(

You're kidding about that right?

Check out the 350Z (and Miata/S2000 if she's OK with manual).
I'd wait for some reviews and reliability reports on the Solsitce/Sky before purchasing.

Sounds like the soltice is the best option to me. 350z are really nice but they aren't exactly small either.

was looking at the dodge stratus r/t coupes and sedans earlier, for less than 27k out the door (i had add more options to them) it seemed to be a spiffy car

Good luck with that. They list for $39,000. They're hot cars, so they're marked up. A LOT. I'd be surprised if you could find one for less than $45000 before tax, title, and license.

Actually, I doubt he is joking, and I agree with him, just not for that particular brand or model.

If she's getting an automatic and still wants good power....I'd go for a mustang GT

However for a manual tranny....I'd go for a new '06 miata (love my '94)

How about a Starmarked 01-04 Mercedes SLK? Hardtop convertible, good lucks, and decent power with potential for some mods. If you get an 01-04, you will get free maitenance to 3/36k. PM me with any questions.

oh god not a crossfire...

i'd say a 350Z or a mustang GT. if a sedan is ok i bet you can find a fairly new 04' G35 sedan for under $30k.

or how about an RX8? yeah i know the auto blows, but it looks soooo nice and the design is just so smart.

It is in the CON section. i.e. bad thing. i know how BAD german german reliability is, and I know a crossfire is a benz (slk) under different name.

But I told her about the price for a auto Trans so she is thinking if the black stick does not look bad she will buy it and I will teach her after. But i still rather her get the pontiac as I know the price should be 25K even with dealer mark up and it be a lot more reliabile then a german car, ala crossfire.

But we are going to wait until later in the year when the 2006 models come out and the year end deals come out and dealers are more friendly to move the 2005's. just trying to tie down at leats 1 or 2 cars that will work for her depending on the price of course. :)

Also I saw the miata and RX8 get weaker motors with a Auto trans. the Miata gets a 1.8l instead of a 2.0L and the RX8 gets the 4 port motor instead of the 6 port. so that is why i don't think those are worth it in auto trans setup.

Seriously though, consumer reviews of the Crossfire range from "not great" to "awful", usually criticizing stiff handing, a general "disconnected" feeling in the car, poor visibility, and a horrendous automatic transmission. I'd definitely take a test-drive before I entertained that thought any further.

Although the HP number isn't impressive in the Miata, keep in mind it is a very small and light car - almost 500 lbs lighter than the Crossfire Coupe. The 2006 Miata automatic is also a 6-speed tiptronic, which (if she is insisting on an automatic) is a huge selling point. I think it might be a good fit.

Best advice is always to go for a test drive and figure out what you can live with.

The reviews on the Crossfire were horrid. The handling is great and the steering is superb. Don't have the auto so I can't comment, but the visibility is a byproduct of the design, so that part isn't great. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't buy it based on the magazines, because it's a great little car.

Yea I THINK I might have her talked into learning how to drive stick so when she gets out of the shower i am going to show her the 350z and RX8. Maybe the miata but the new body style will cost to much as there are no deals and the older one (current) she does not like. Bit mustang os to big and looks weird (her words)

i thought i read somewhere they were having a hard time getting rx8's off the lots, some people got like $7k off msrp for last year's model early this year (which would be what, $21-$22k?)

I dunno where I read it, I think I was just killing time at work...seems to fit the bill perfectly for what you need though..

no the crossfire is NOT a merc SLK with an american badge. a 300C is NOT a merc E-class, and a PT cruiser is NOT a dodge neon. an odessy is NOT an accord. it's not like a matrix/vibe or 9-2x/WRX thing.

with that said, the crossfire is BASED on the OLD merc SLK, without the electric hardtop, without the merc interior, and its trunk is one of the most stupidest design i've ever seen. it's not that exciting, not that fast, not that luxurious, and not that sporty, and not even that cheap. sorry for being too harsh, but it's a bad car unless you can get it for really cheap.
