Looking for a relativly cheap 939 MicroATX board

I am going to upgrade my main rig with a 8800GTS or GTX sometime in the near future. When I go I will have a 7800GT with no home. So instead of selling it and actually making money I want to spend money to build a machine around it :)

Here is what I want to do, get a cheap(er) 939 board, a black microfly, venice or manchester A64 939 and some cheap ram. I now have an extra Antec SP 500watt (yah yah, I know all about the SP but this one is solid) so a psu and disc drive are not needed. That way I can complete a decent travel gamer/HTPC that will be hooked up to my medicore HT system downstairs. It would play all the newest games at lower res (1024) so that would satisfy my needs as my main machine would still play games just fine. I would also get a Zalman CPNS7000 Cu as I understand they fit in this case.

That being said, what are some good micro ATX boards? There are a few combo deals through newegg as well as some others that are in the price range I am looking for:

ASUS A8V-VN SE
MSI K8M890M2-V
Biostar 6100-M9
DFI RS482 Infinity

Any suggestions on those so far? I would want to be able to do minimal overclocking, just a few hundred mhz, nothing spectacular. The DFI looks the best in terms of features but are there any issues with case and CPU cooler compatibility? I may look at a dual core CPU but that is stretching the bugdet of an all-ready over budget build. I would do a C2D build but with the CPU's starting in the mid to upper $100's plus DDR2 ram that means a much more expensive machine.

I dunno, I may just scrap the whole thing in favor of a brand new build, I just always wanted a smaller gamer and with some of the parts I have around it should be only $300 or so to build it. Though if I went socket A it would only be about $100 but the gaming performance would be pretty poor.

Thanks for any help!

why socket 939? wouldn't am2 be cheaper?
(unless you already have the cpu and/ or memory?)

You are correct, the motherboard forums would be better if my only concern was the mb but I am looking at the SFF as a whole as well. I will ask the mobo specific question over there but I am also curious how my proposed build would work.

In fact I do not have cpu or ram all-ready (unless you count the socket A stuff) so I could totally look at AM2, I had not even thought about that.

I have the DFI RS482 for my matx, and i have nothing but praise for it, all the overclocking options of regular atx boards. It has been running solid for about a year with a 3200+ at 2.5ghz all the time. This is with the stock cooler and the cpu volts at 1.45. I don't think there would be many issues with after market cooling, just the clearance of the case, the biggest cooler my x-qpak will fit is a zalman 7000.

Again nothing but praise for the DFI, i have no experience with the other boards though.

Good luck on the build!

Very cool, thanks for the info! I was leaning towards the DFI as my main machines DFI board has been awesome... almost perfect except for that POS chipset fan. Now I just need to find some $...

if you dont have ram then go AM2 or C2D. 939 chips are cheap high. I was going to dot he same then reallized 939 would cost me more. Then as I started to look at AM2 i just just a 4300 C2D. AM@ is sitll less money since thier MB and CPU are cheaper. And since this I not your main rig I would go for cheap over power.

I MSI boards for 939. Most are cheap and all are very stable. I say just check newegg or ZZ. Most Matx 939 boards are stable now (they old). If you not odin OC then all will work. Most come with on board video, but I see you dont need that.
