I am going to upgrade my main rig with a 8800GTS or GTX sometime in the near future. When I go I will have a 7800GT with no home. So instead of selling it and actually making money I want to spend money to build a machine around it
Here is what I want to do, get a cheap(er) 939 board, a black microfly, venice or manchester A64 939 and some cheap ram. I now have an extra Antec SP 500watt (yah yah, I know all about the SP but this one is solid) so a psu and disc drive are not needed. That way I can complete a decent travel gamer/HTPC that will be hooked up to my medicore HT system downstairs. It would play all the newest games at lower res (1024) so that would satisfy my needs as my main machine would still play games just fine. I would also get a Zalman CPNS7000 Cu as I understand they fit in this case.
That being said, what are some good micro ATX boards? There are a few combo deals through newegg as well as some others that are in the price range I am looking for:
ASUS A8V-VN SE
MSI K8M890M2-V
Biostar 6100-M9
DFI RS482 Infinity
Any suggestions on those so far? I would want to be able to do minimal overclocking, just a few hundred mhz, nothing spectacular. The DFI looks the best in terms of features but are there any issues with case and CPU cooler compatibility? I may look at a dual core CPU but that is stretching the bugdet of an all-ready over budget build. I would do a C2D build but with the CPU's starting in the mid to upper $100's plus DDR2 ram that means a much more expensive machine.
I dunno, I may just scrap the whole thing in favor of a brand new build, I just always wanted a smaller gamer and with some of the parts I have around it should be only $300 or so to build it. Though if I went socket A it would only be about $100 but the gaming performance would be pretty poor.
Thanks for any help!
