Looking for a new place to call home

So, I have been at another forum for more than 20 years and I've finally become tired of all of the right-wing circle jerk seeping into every thread.
I'm looking for a home where that isn't the case. Is this that place? I looked at the news and politics threads and they seem pretty normal here.

I don't hate people because of their views but I don't want to see them in every thread.

If anything, the P&N forum here tends to be very left-wing librul...with a couple of "conservatards" thrown in the mix.

The moderators do a pretty good job keeping that crap in the sewer correct forum where it belongs.

I'm one of the few right wing circle jerks around here. Boomer is just a jerk. I assume...you can handle the left wing seepage. 😀 Welcome.

I'm prolly a libertarian but who cares?

The current Libertarian party isn't actually libertarian these days. If you aren't voting straight Democrat these days you can't call yourself a small 'l' libertarian. To be clear I am not saying Democrats are libertarian, just that they are currently the only thing stopping us from descending straight into fascism, as much as many people like to believe that Democrats are the actual fascists.

I googled it a while back and it looks like they're 15 different definitions for libertarian. Imagine that. I'm fiscally/socially conservative. What you do in your house is none of my business.

Maybe I should start a new political party. "You Do You, Boo."

That would be fiscally conservative/socially liberal, what may "independents" call themselves. It's typically not accurate though. If people were actually fiscally conservative/socially liberal, they'd be Democrats because that is what rank and file Democrats are. Our definitions of fiscally conservative have been skewed dramatically. It used to mean don't spend more than we take in. Now most people think it means cut taxes and figure out the rest later, or cut taxes and that will force us to cut spending. The people who scream "fiscal conservatism" just blow up the deficit while characterizing the Democrats as fiscally liberal when they actually reduce the deficit time and time again.

I'm not surprised there are a bunch of definitions of libertarian, I bet some are more valid than others. There are various flavors of liberalism, conservatism and fascism as well. Everything exists on a spectrum.

That would be me. I really don't believe either elected party has our best interests as their primary goal.

If you want to discuss politics and news, there's a forum for it. If not, then just don't visit the P&N forum. It's pretty well limited to that forum. There's good separation from the rest of the boards here IMHO.

I kind of lean the same way. I lean right because the only real electable options are right/left but I'd say my views are probably more libertarian. Basically "leave me the fuck alone" is the main policy I ask from any government, and that includes leaving my wallet alone.
