My $30 one from Eddie Bauer has been great, it's been through one use of high school, one night underwater (when I drove my car in a ditch full of water), Bonnaroo, various places in the US (St. Louis, DC, Florida) and it still looks like it did the day I bought it. Good stuff

Anything that can survive at the 'Roo is definitely a great bag! :)

<---4 years and going strong! :)

Yep! I was at the front of the group waiting by the gates for the main stage at 11:30am on Saturday (my friend and I were the first people waiting, at 4:45am but anything for Radiohead) and I got pushed down as soon as the gates opened and my bag was stepped on by about 8 people. My bag survived (and the iPod inside!) and I still managed to see Radiohead second row center :D

open third eye, if you want something nice with clean lines(something you can dress up or dress down) that is made well, i would recommend you look into Jack Spade. I have had a Jack Spade bag fr a couple of years and have found it more than useful and a complete joy to own.

Edit: btw, the bag you picked is more than ugly-it is fugly, imo.

Thanks for the info. Nice bags, but I can think of much better ways to blow $500. That could get me another nice lens for my 30D or some other fun toys.

It's really not good for your body to put a lot of weight in a bag that's carried like that...

That's a very nice bag! Have any complaints at all about it?

Man this bag is amazing. I just got it a week or 2 ago and it does everything I want it. I can stick random things in the outside zip pocket (ipod, flashcards, random junk), I can put pens and gum and ****** like that in the little pocket inside the flap, and inside there are basically 3 sections. The middle is nice and padded for my lappy, then theres a small pocket on one side of the padded section (which has its own velcro flap to keep water or anything incidental out) and then a big open section on the other side.

Its hard to explain that, but thats the basic layout.

So far I've been able to cram as much or as little into that thing with no problems. I'm loving the manhattan quality and its simple design.

EDIT: if you have any specific questions lemme know.

Quite a good possibility. I'm gonna look at some B&M stores after work today. Once again, it's trying to figure out what stores will have messenger bags that becomes the big question. Since I'm still new to the Rockville/Bethesda area, I'm still finding new places every day for this and that.

The m/c shop that I mentioned earlier is Rockville Harley. I think they should still be selling Timbuk2, if you decide to go that route.

I have this one. A little expensive, but I wanted a professional looking bag. Some of the ones mentioned in this thread are great, but sometimes not quite suitable for a business setting (e.g. sales meetings).

I have a Swiss Army backpack that I use for other things, and that works out great as well.

[edit]I thought I'd point out that some of the guys at work call it my "murse." :)[/edit]

Kenneth Cole Reaction "Buckle Up" Bag

I have that bag (it's sitting right here next to me, actually) and it is fantastic. It's extremely comfortable, extremely elegant and attractive, and very functional. The main pocket is big enough for a couple text books, some notebooks, and is wide enough to stash a water bottle in with the books. There are inside (under the flap) and outside document pockets as well which work wonderfully for loose sheets or another notebook. There's also a pen holder in the inner document pocket and a cell phone pocket on the outside end, easily accesible when the bag is on your shoulder. I've been carrying a laptop in it recently and have had no problems whatsover.

It's a great bag, I love it, and more than a few have complimented it. Good stuff. Cheap, too!

These are all great! I'm going to try and find a place around DC that actually sells the Chrome bags so I can take a closer look at them. I went to one of the places on the "Retailers" page of their site and they had one bag...the biggest backpack they offer. Ugh.

notfred what size do you have? I'm guessing the Citizen?

edit: i suck at teh bold tag

I was lookin for one for college...

I looked at either the Mountainsmith Network

or the North Face Offsite

I got the Offsite, mainly because they had it at my local store. It's a great bag. It has a dedicated laptop sleeve, and a nice amount of room for books and such. It even has a seperate pouch at the bottom that zips shut for power supplies and cords...
