Take a serious look at the Minolta Dimage S414.

Great camera for the price, very comparable to the Canon G3 at a much more affordable price.

I would seriously question any review that puts a Kodak above two Canons.

just got a nikon Coolpix 4300 4mp for $340.

Flexability with upgrading is unmatched in this price range. Plus 4mp and builtin rechargables is a plus.

quality is excellent.

Their is a simple point and shoot mode for the old lady and the flexability of adsustment's for more of a power user.

Ditto this. I was just about to post the exact same camera. I love it. :)

I was going to say the same thing. I've owned "2" Kodak digital cameras and now have a Canon G2. I've taken many "side-by-side" shots and the Canon blows the Kodak away.

Avoid HP and Kodak digicams like the plague.

As others have said I would highly recommend the Canon A70 which can be had for around $300 - $50 off coupon = $250 at places like Staples, OM, OD, etc.

I just got a Canon A70, and I LOVE IT! It takes beautiful pics and is easy to use. I definitely recommend it. :)

Good luck, it was hard choosing one, but I am glad about the one I got.

You want GOOD or just a regular point and shoot camera? When you say good, I think about recommending the Canon Digital Rebel DSLR camera. When you said regular point and shoot I think about recommending a regular Canon non-DSLR. Anyway, check out www.dpreview.com for more info and other forums you can ask questions at.

A digital camera expert was on TechTV not long ago. One of the things you need to consider is what you will use the cam for. If you aren't going to PRINT large pictures you really don't need anything above 3MP.

His favorite 3MP cam was the Nikon Coolpix 3100. It's about $300.

It's not low. It was still rated as very good. I think it's just that most of them are all so close together.

RossMan, I'd really like to know why you and others are so negative against Kodak cameras.
I asked you before and you couldn't give me any reasons.
Not giving any evidence or reasoning makes you sound like a fanboy saying "my brand rules and yours sucks. Why? Just because I said so"
Not that I have any personal experience with any of them,
But some of the Kodak cams have gotten some very good reviews from owners and reviewers at some of the review sites you guys mentioned. It seems that a lot of people who have them would disagree with you saying they just suck.

EDIT: not saying you are wrong, just like to see some evidence before I am convinced.

EDIT: that said, I've pretty much decided to buy the A70 for christmas because it has good image quality and all the features that I want at a reasonable price. I looked quite a bit and it basically came down to the fact that all the other cameras I looked at had some minor drawback and the A70 did not. Things like no sound with the movie mode, no manual focus, more expensive xD memory, slightly worse image quality, or simply didn't feel comfortable in my hand.

Shanti - I still have no reasons to give you as to why Kodak sucks other than that's my personal opinion and the majority of people would agree.

However my wife owns a Kodak DX3700 which I wanted to return to CC but couldn't because of the wife. If she saw this post she would disagree with me and say it's a nice lovely digicam :p

We have used the Kodak over 100 hours and it's exceptionally easy to use, has never failed us but the picture quality sucks compared to it's Canon/Nikon/Oly/Sony/Minolta/Fuji competitors. Even my 2 year old Fuji Finepix 1400 takes better pictures.

So I have no proof or scientific data to provide other than my personal opinion that Kodak and HP digicams suck.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with Kodak digicams, I think it's just that they're close to the middle-bottom of the barrel.. like Suzuki and cars, or Fujitsu and harddrives. That doesen't mean that they break after a month or something, it just means that while functional, they use cheaper parts. In the case of cameras, cheaper parts means less <insert adjective here> pictures.

Thank you, I think that better describes my dislike (or disapproval) for Kodak and HP digicams.

It's like I would never buy a Suzuki Swift, I'd rather get a Geo Metro.

j/k that was a test to see if you're awake!
