Maybe the majority of ATOT'ers who claim to be digicam experts would agree. But from reading many of the reviews at places like dpreview.com, I'm not sure that's true. I do think you are generalizing a little too much about Kodak cameras just because of your personal experience with one particular model. I mean, I have a K6-2 380 in one of my machines, but I would never use that experience to tell people that AMD chips suck.

It may be true that the quality is not at the same level as some of the others. But I'm not sure you can say that about all Kodak cameras in general. The image quality is supposed to be better on the new ones with the Kreuznach lenses. And I would expect their 10 MP professional level SLR to produce good pictures.

I guess I was more bothered by it coming from you, because after all, you are the RossMAN, and people on ATOT pretty much worship you as a god and take everything that comes out of your mouth (or keyboard) as the divine truth.

Anyway, wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything. Just thought it was a bit of a generalization.
Plus, I work for Kodak, so I had to try to defend them a little.:D
Not that I have anything to do with manufacturing cameras.

But just try to say Kodak DryView medical imaging film sucks. We'll be in for a fight then for sure.

where at... I want to pay 250 for the camera, and so far have been waiting for the damn thing to drop.

I want a A70... PM me if you want Rossman.

It's $284 at Walmart. Easy to return that way if there is a problem.
Or $299 at Costco with a case and the AC adapter. Not sure if it's available in the store though or only at Costco.com

You're in luck.

1) Go to OfficeMax.com
2) Search for A70 or order by item number 20338804
3) Add a filler (something which costs $0.02 or more) to reach $300.00
4) Use the $50 off $250 or $50 off $300 coupons
5) Free Shipping
6) Since you owe me, I ask one favor of you ... resume posting your YAGT threads such as this classic and we'll call it even Steven :)

* Here comes the defender of Fuji!!! *

The Fuji Finepix 3800 (or whatever they just renamed it to) is a great camera for the money. 6X optical zoom and 3 megapixel images. Also you get video with sound. The pictures are excellent and you can certainly notice the improvements between the 3800 and the 4900 (which came out in 2000 with nearly the same specs) so it is obvious that they are improving the technology.

No worries, you have every right to question anyone why they hate or love a particular product or service.

Anyone who worships me and takes my advice without first doing their own research is asking for trouble. If I were to ask for PDA advice I'd probably ask NFS4, he'd give me the 411, then I would research the model(s) he recommends and would take it from there. Just because someone says this product rocks you should try it doesn't mean you should investigate it further yourself.

Then again most AT'ers are sheep, baaaaaaah :p

I am also a defender of Fuji, which chapter are you?

Anyhow the Fuji 3800 looks badass but it's hardly "compact" and is a beast compared to the Canon A70. Nice review though.

For those of you curious, here's a side by side comparison of the Canon A70 vs Fuji 3800.

Excellent choice in digicams, just make sure to get some good high capacity rechargeable batteries to go with your new A70.

Eli should be in here shortly to give some pointers :) but before he does, here's some reading material.

I hope it's a good long rant :)

i have a whole bunch of alkalines sitting in a bag (costco batteries). So that should last a few weeks, i will have to get some memory card (i am looking for some now). Compusa has a 128 for 29.99 after a 10 rebate - not too hot.

I am looking.

My brother's digital camera has 4 sets of rechargable, i can pinch 2 if needed. If not I saw a deal a few days back at fry's for 8 batteries + charger for 19.99.

I'm getting a Canon S230 package in the mail soon, but got a fairly good deal on it. I would look at that or the SD100. Both very nice compact cameras. The Canon ELPHs perform very well.

However if you don't mind having a "bulkier" camera (compared to the ELPH series) then I highly suggest the A70. Lots of people jump quickly on the Canon bandwagon, but for good reason.

I've used both Fuji and Olympus low-to-mid-range digicams extensively and I like both quite a bit. Canons are the most commonly recommended on AT, though.

I just got a A70 on monday. Overall a really nice camera for the money with a lot of great features. Plus its truly plug and play with XP dont even have to touch any of the bundled software to transfer pics. My only complaint about this camera is that is uses AA batteries, and while its not hard to buy rechargeable ones, the inclusion of some type of rechargable battery pack with this camera would have made it truly bad ass -- IMO :D

Yeah. I started doing a lot of research on it about a month ago. I've spent hours scouring reviews and doing side-by-side comparisons.
It is amazing how many models there are to choose from.
I've considered quite a few and I think I've decided on the A70.

But dammit, evertime I look at one of these threads, someone recommends another different model and I have to go look at that one.

We went to circuit city to look at some last week. My wife held several of them in her hands and said "yeah, I like the way that one feels, let's get it" referring to the A70. Arrrgghhh. Why is it I have to spend hours and hours reading reviews and looking at specs and features before deciding, and she can just pick one up and say OK, let's get this one.

After looking around a lot, I'd say the best sites for reviews and comparisons are
http://www.dpreview.com/ -Check out the buying guide on the left. Feature Search and Side-by-Side are really helpful. Lets you easily find all the models that have the features you want and to compare between a couple of different models.

http://www.dcresource.com/
http://www.steves-digicams.com
I think these two have the best in depth reviews on individual cameras.

1 fujifilm fine pix 3800 $340
2 olympus camedia c740 $450
3 Fujifilm finepix f601z $450
(the best 3 in the graph readout)

4 kodak easy share dx4330 $280
5 [CR BEST BUY] fujifilm finepix a303 $220
6 Canon powershot s230 $340
7 Canon powershot a70 $290
(these are comparable in the very good range)

I would seriously question any review that puts a Kodak above two Canons.

Viper GTS

copy that, consumer reports talks out of their ass.
