Threads like this remind me that no matter how many times I go into NYC and try a new restaurant, I'm never going to be able to cover even 1/5th of all the great places to eat in the city.

Surprisingly, all my favorite restaurants aren't even in Manhattan, but rather in Queens. (exceptions being Mahmoun's and Gray's Papaya)

Which ones in Queens?

Pho Bang? Jackson Diner? Joe's Shanghai (in Flushing)?

That's actually pretty goos sushi there too, not the crap you get at some of the other all you can eat places.

yeh go is cheap but good...

as for tomoe...there is a love/hate relationship w/ that place. i for one hate it. meanwhile many others love it...i guess the wait does not justify the food there

Many of the places I'll say have been mentioned:
Tomoe (go early), Gray's Papaya, Mamoun's (go whenever), Mesa Grill (I hate Bobby Flay but the food's great there), Rocco's Italian (cheap and great food), Nobu, Spice, Pomme Fritte (go between 10PM and 1 AM)
Anywhere from 23rd St. to Houston should have good food, just wander around, those areas are up all night. You can find great Chinese in the area of Mott and Canal (no specifics, sorry).
Find the best Indian food in Jackson Heights, Queens, if not there, try the West Village.
Grimaldi's Pizza in Brooklyn, closer to home Lombardi's Pizza in Soho
Junior's Cheesecake in Brooklyn.

update: some times, the best laid plan goes to waste.

the plane got here late, so i had to rush to get some lunch. got off the green subway line at canal, and found a 'fire pot' place, very very cheap for a beef pot with all the fixings ($8).

had to rush back to astoria and then walk around to find the work place. walked from park ave. to 8th ave, up and down, and couldn't find where i needed to go.

i walked past rockefeller center (no ski rink, there's a bistro there now), and passed by the rainbow room, and i saw ted danson walk into the place with an usher. he was like about 5 feet away from me! he looks exactly like he was in the larry david show.

hopefully, i'll have time to get good dinner from one of the place listed.

anyone know anything about "spam-a-lot"? people are telling me to go watch.

i never heard it being called fire-pot, i'd call it hot-pot.
