Looking for a few places to eat in New York (update 1)

My company is sending me to New York city. I'll be staying in Waldorf Astoria for this special project. The only transportation I'll get is taxi (to,from airport), walking and subway.

So, do you guys know a good place to eat? I probably want to go to Chinatown and eat cheap food for lunch and then blow all my per diem on dinner.

Anyone been to Nobu or Next door Nobu? good place?

update: sometimes, the best laid plan goes to waste.

the plane got here late, so i had to rush to get some lunch. got off the green subway line at canal, and found a 'fire pot' place, very very cheap for a beef pot with all the fixings ($8).

had to rush back to astoria and then walk around to find the work place. walked from park ave. to 8th ave, up and down, and couldn't find where i needed to go.

i walked past rockefeller center (no ski rink, there's a bistro there now), and passed by the rainbow room, and i saw ted danson walk into the place with an usher. he was like about 5 feet away from me! he looks exactly like he was in the larry david show.

hopefully, i'll have time to get good dinner from one of the place listed.

anyone know anything about "spam-a-lot"? people are telling me to go watch.

Belgian: Markt (not that expensive, but I rack up a tab on those Belgian ales)

What's that place across from AMC theatre that had japanese-style food served in styrofoam containers ? It was laid out like a regular fast food joint with seats too. It was good and cheap. Is that Nobu ?

Nobu is good but a tad overpriced.

if you want sushi, suhi of gari is good as is sushi yasuda

head to Momofuku its on 1st ave between 10th and 11th. its teh awesomeness

nobu is good. try the creamy spicy crab and their signature miso cod. the steak is not good. i had it med rare and it was still a bit tough.
bond st is similar. just tried it last week.

for chinatown chinese, go to hop sing on bowery (they may have renamed but its a few steps away from the corner of bowery and mott). they serve authentic chinese.

there is also a chinese style diner called wing sing. that is on bowery as well (bowery and pell). right in front of a red newstand you will see steps going downstairs. thats the place.

yummy noodle has one of the best hot pot rice dishes (use plenty of their own brewed soy sauce in the LARGE bottle). bowery as well. between canal and bayard, smack in the middle of the block, right at the entrance of the tunnel.

oh, bond st is one of the only places that serve fugu. i didnt try it, but it may be worth it.

for real ramen, try momofuku. 1st ave and 10th street. their appetizers are amazing and the ramen soup is cooked for hours. oops, i didnt realize xospec1alk beat me to it.

Hey, I almost forgot, I remember you had been to NO recently and enjoyed the food (from the oyster thread). Jacque-Imo's has a location on Columbus now in NYC, it's pretty damn good. If you're in the mood for something different...

Since you're staying in midtown, and looking for cheap lunches (this is aside from he usual Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger Kings and such):
-Beer Bar (45th & Vanderbilt) Their burger is huge and pretty good. $12.95 though.
-Cosi Sandwich Bar (45th between Vandy & Madison) Decent sandwiches with slightly more unique ingredients. $7-8
-Longwood Deli (48th & Lex) Korean style by the pound deli. $7+
-Teriyaki Boy (46th between Lex & 3rd) Curry over rice (w/chicken or salmon) $7
-Little Italy Pizza (43rd between Madison & 5th) Pretty good pizza, 2 slices $4
-Yoshinoya (46th between 5th & 6th) If you like this kind of stuff...
-Cuban Deli Cafe Cello?? (forget the name - 46th between 5th & 6th, downtown side of the street 2/3 of the way to 6th) Variety of meats - pork, fish, grilled chicken over rice & beans - $7-8 Yummy.
-Nino's (46th between 5th & 6th, uptown side) Cheap Italian food. Pasta, pizza, chicken parm decent. $7-8
-Chipotle (44th between Lex & 3rd) Big burrito chain. $7-8
-Ho Yip (45th between 5th & 6th, uptown side) OK Chinese food, sort of Chinatown style, not as good. $5-6
-Bread and Olive (45th between 5th & 6th, downtown side) Lebanese food (Middle Eastern/Mediterranean) Chicken & Beef Shawarma, different kinds of dumplings & kebbeh. Good stuff. $8-10

As for dinner, too many places to eat at "on the company". For the ones mentioned here, go to Sushi Yasuda or Sushi of Gari, if you want sushi specifically and Nobu, if you want more than that. For steaks- Sparks, The Palm, Bobby Van's, Smith & Wollensky, Michael Jordan's and Morton's are all near the Waldorf.

EDIT: And since I see you talking seafood with werk, Oyster Bar in Grand Central is right near you as well. It can be cheap or expensive, depending on what you get. Maybe not the same as the NO stuff, but still good.

Tried to make a reservation for two (my boss and client) on Monday but they only had 5:45 available. Nobu ND won't take reservations for less than 5.

Trying to figure out where else to send them.
