My site has a 1 day old pic of my dialup connection: CLICK

I cut out 3 numbers of it so you don't know exactly what number I dial into, but it is legit, and as of right now the connection is up to 14 days, 12 hrs, 46 min.

while your there, be sure to take my fuzzy pic quiz too!

well, IF some devious beings wanted to kill my connecion, getting 20 users or so to make a call into the ISP would probably kick me (I *think* I am the oldest live connection). It is a small extention office for a local area ISP and I have NEVER gotten a busy signal there.

190mb? heh, i stream ~20MB/hr .. my pc is on 24/7.. downloading most of the time. I probably average 350-400MB daily.. only annoying thing is my isp drops me every 6 hours on the mark. Luckily my comp autoredials:)

What isp are you using that lets you stay on so long? That would be handy for stuff like irc:p

back in the day (before cablemodem), i had a USR Courier...

That thing would NEVER drop a connection. Kinda freaked me out a bit. I actually had to remember to disconnect....

Uh, even with the number, we'd need the area code. Besides, for most of us that'd be long distance, and with that costing as much as it does now (can you afford 7 cents per minute? I sure cant :p) and the fact that we're all pacifistic little nerds who would never do anything hostile or illegal (yeah, sure ;)), it was unnecesary.

hehe, cute ss, real cute... if this was a lie, I would not even show it...

I don't plan to tell the ISP because if they ever activly watched what I was doing every 19min to keep my connection from dying (they autodisconnect idles after 20min), I would probably get kicked 5 min after every reconnect.

yeah, I don't download much other then demos or drivers and just web page info so 200 megs is about the norm for me

there is a previous connection uptime in there too under click , this is not the same connection.

wow are you living in the past:) modems are nothing for the isps to be worried about now, they are fighting to keep up with dsl and cable.. u can hog your line all you want.. its not going to strain them a bit. Whats the last time they've had to upgrade their modem racks? :p

well since I moved away from the city, I lost my dearest friend, my cable modem. :( I'm at school or work most of my day, with multiple T3's in either location, but in the few hours I'm home I'm stuck on dialup.. my school offers free dialup accounts for students into the school network, and it never drops you, EVER. but since I only have 1 home phone line I never keep it up to see how long it could go, but the first day I left it on when I went to sleep, thinking it would cut me off like netzero did every 2 hours on the dot, but it didn't.

I got up the next morning, went to school, went to work, came home, and saw it was still connected for ~24 hours. I messed around online for a while and went to sleep, killed it when I got up before I left the house, so longest is about 36 hours for me, but other students have told me they've had it up for weeks before having to reboot finally or something and ending up killing it. so its like a dedicated 1b+d isdn or something

13 days is about my record, too (didn't take a screenshot). I'm using a USR 56k Voice PCI modem...if I don't disconnect manually then I never get booted. I used to get emails from Mindspring/Earthlink all the time about how I had used 300+ hours for the month and that they were investigating me for hosing a server. :)

With Cable and DSL readily available though (except where I live, just outside of town), I haven't gotten an email like that for months.

Hey Lily27, its just a little thing of multiple phone lines. The longest I ever had was around 8 days and I would have been on longer, but stupid windows crashed because as we all know windows 98 after 8 days is just plain slooowwww.

Hrm... my dial-up connections never lasted more than 4 hours, if I was lucky. I only had (and still have) one phone line. :(

I think i did 10 hrs once....but that doesnt matter anymore since I got cable modem....no outages yet...I strongly suggest to everyone on dial up to try to get high-spped if they can, and if you cant, i'm pretty sure you will be able to in a year or two..
