What has happened in the US is the cops have a history, reputation of beating up, mistreating, killing, corruption, etc. The cops beat up or kill someone and the community riots. This has happened in Los Angeles at least twice

Isn't this how the French riots started a few years back?

Two teenagers running from the cops ran into a substation and got electrocuted. In pursuit of "justice", they torched a couple thousand cars?

How did that happen? I thought gun control stopped gun violence.

Yes, you've understood the claims of gun-control advocates perfectly Because for decades now, they've been claiming that effective gun-control laws will reduce gun violence to zero. And with strong gun-control laws in place, if even one person commits illegal violence with a gun, that proves that gun-control is useless.

By that logic you could say all laws are useless.

No-one has said gun control will reduce gun violence to zero, that's rubbish.

Possessing an unlicensed firearm in the UK can get you 10-15 years in jail.

Good shooting by the police. 2 rounds fired by an H&K MP5 killed the suspect. Not bad when you're being shot at.

I have been following the incident for the last couple of days, and have hold my thought till now. The development seems to be an interesting case, and will see how much of a parallel this will be to the Rodney King incident.

Police and the riot blunders: Top officer flew off on holiday hours before mayhem and doubts emerge over shooting that sparked carnage

And in a dramatic development, the killing of father-of-four Mark Duggan, who was shot dead on Thursday by armed officers, came under fresh scrutiny.
There were claims that a bullet found lodged in a police radio was a force-issue bullet, meaning Duggan had not fired on officers as police suggested.
Meanwhile, Scotland Yard came under criticism after it admitted that it had not anticipated the violence, despite community warnings of a backlash over the shooting of Duggan.

if, if he carried a gun and if h used it on innocent people then yes - the loss of this guys life is a good thing

Call me old fashioned but I still prefer to see violent criminals stand trial for their crimes rather than be gunned down by vigilante cops.

Loss of life is never a good thing, even if the victim looked like a dickhead.

You're quite right, but for someone to open fire on a police officer he deserves what he gets, I would rather none of this had happened at all but to that to a police officer, a person serving the community who deserves much respect is outrageous.

I live in London ,not far from Lewisham/Peckham and I can tell you its just young thugs going round looting, causing damage for no reason, its spread to Birmingham City I hear .

I hope they get life imprisonment, however probably won't because prisons are full.

I would love them to call the army in and shoot the buggers that are looting and causing mayhem.

They are lucky they are not in China or Russia, they know how to deal with this crap.

AFAIK there is no evidence the shot man was armed. The Met have a history of this - they guy was always pointing a weapon at them or holding a bomb or something until someone complains and finds out it's all bullshit. They shot him because he was black.

Is there anyone here who lives in this neighborhood?

Not likely, the area is so run down and poor I doubt there is much Internet service.

LOL mate this isn't the third world it's London. Even the homeless have wireless. Literally.

And shit yea I'm just down the road - I can see the smoke. Got a balaklava and some other kit ready by the door just in case. If they come round this estate they're getting some fucking holes in them.

5 Years for an unlicenced semi-auto handgun. Shotguns and rifles and licenced weapons are okay.

WTF is wrong with those rioting asshats?

I watched a news clip yesterday where they interviewed an older resident of the area. His answer: "They don't really have anything better to do"

If you were unemployed and living in a shitty place without any prospects, why wouldn't you break some shit?

Much more control and restraint than American cops, who would have plugged 100 rounds into the suspect and his car.

Some of the areas are not that bad to live in,I'm unemployed at the moment but you don't see me going round causing this kind of crap, there is NO EXCUSE.

I feel sorry for the shop owners/workers that have had their lives ruined by this kind of crap, not to meantion those made homeless.

Fact is they need to get tougher in the UK on this kind of crap, regardless of your religion or colour, those excuses are so old.

I hope that this results in the toppling of their barbaric monarchy. Why should the youths suffer while the inbreds continue to live lavishly on the backs of the oppressed? Demand equal rights, British people! Storm Buckingham Palace!

Will do but if they come this way (5 mins away currently) I'm out there.

I hate you and everything you stand for, but this is actually a reasonable idea.

I stand for equality. Seriously, how can the British people make the youth suffer while they spend millions upon millions on the royal family? How about disbanding the inbreds and just give the youth jobs. Hell, I'd rather make one intelligent and yet unemployed youth the 'king' for a year than some inbred yokel.

Hell, hopefully something like this happens in the US. Not the toppling of a monarchy because the US is far more believing in equality, but the youth rising up. At least the British are admirable in this regard. Americans are probably too busy eating big macs and thus too fat to rise up like this.
