Lollipop is backward...

I recently upgraded my Galaxy Note 3 to Android 5.0 and now the volume slider and brightness slider are backwards (left increases it, right decreases it). The contact list, call log, and settings are the same way: the names and icons are on the right instead of left.

Is there a setting somewhere for this? If not, did Google flip everything (i.e. is standard lollipop this way) or was it Samsung?

this is basically google. they're dumbasses with no consistent design framework. they come up with an idea (holo), then drop it and go with something completely opposite (MDL and white), and do goofy things with MDL like "because your desk is messy and has layers of paper that you shuffle around, we'll emulate that with the stacks of cards that you can only see one of at once, and then we'll make other stuff look messy and stacked like when you scroll down in the playstore and it hides the stuff above".

It literally makes no sense, someone needs to be fired, and I need to be hired to clean it up. They have no idea what they're doing.

Material Design seems to have been embraced quite well too. Lollipop didn't get flack because of Material Design(don't care for links about some reviews criticising it because they would have been the exception).

I've seen a few complaints about the color palette, but that's a subjective thing. I wish they wouldn't moan about it the way they do. Not liking it is one thing, the whining they do is just sad. I'm fine with the brighter colors and animations, myself.

There are some things I wish they would have sorted before releasing to the public, like the memory leaks. Even 5.1 is supposed to have one. I don't think I've run into that one, but I encountered the 5.0 leak a few times.

(Preface, I own a Nexus 5)
And then there's the priority mode. I liked it in 5.0. My phone was silent at night with no LED except for phone calls from starred contacts. Now in 5.1, the LED is an all or nothing option again. Which made for a few aggravating nights until I just re-created my Tasker profile to turn the LED off at night while charging.

It'd be "messier," but they need to just bring in more settings on the matter. When I set priority mode, it's for sleeping. If my priority mode is active, I don't want the LED flashing.

Thank goodness for Tasker. I can at least fix these little issues.

But I am overall still very satisfied with Lollipop.

Thats a funny attitude given that the colours and animations are pretty much the only differences that I can see in 5.02. If people don't like the main change then I cant see why the shouldn't mention it just because you're fine with it.

Thankfully Samsung seems to have fixed the fustercluck that Google made of the silent mode/do not disturb mode.

There is a distinct difference between bringing up what you feel to be a valid complaint on a subjective matter, and the constant prissy whining and moaning I see.

I've seen people bring it up in a way conducive to discussion. That's fine by me. We're all bettered for a genuinely healthy disagreement. I'm obviously not talking about that.

Well as you didn't give any examples and just sort of lumped everyone together that disagreed with you into the proverbial 'they' it didn't help.

I must admit that I dislike the amount of white in lollipop. This isn't text on a page where white works, it's unnecessary bright at night. A dark background is much easier on the eyes when it's a media that's emitting light.

For all the fuss about lollipop that seems to be the biggest in your face difference over KitKat, that it'll give you eye strain quicker.

I didn't lump everyone together. READ WHAT I SAID.

When I specify prissy whiners, I feel like I should be able to safely assume people on the internet know what I'm talking about. There are plenty of them everywhere. But sure, I'll take the blame, because I did make an assumption.

soccerballtux is a mild example what I was talking about. They were at least close to making a reasonable argument for their opinion. Get rid of the rant-y bits, and you're left with a partial point with some glaring contradictions. Most don't even get that far.

One thing of interest, given your argument, KitKat was also bright and colorful. The jump from KitKat to Lollipop is not that different when you only consider colors used.

I've also turned my brightness down a couple notches. It's still super bright in the morning if the first thing I go for is my phone. At night, being blinded isn't an issue for me. During the day, it obviously doesn't matter. I'll take an optional inconvenience once a day for a design that I prefer. You're welcome to disagree. But like I've been saying, just don't be a whiny turd about it. You have not been. I appreciate that.

Yeah but design all over the world is about clean white minimalistic webpages now. Just look at the new hip startups with vertical scrolling webpages with a few buzzwords and droolworthy pictures. Top menus are out. Black webpages are out.

Look what iOS did going to a clean white look too. It's not just Google.

remove battery, and place it back in or..... full system reset.
 
My job supplied HTC M8 got lolliPOOP a few days ago. Its horrid. Actually took away some functionality. Good thing I only use it for job related shit and not personal stuff. I have my Note 4 on 4.4.4 and i think I will leave it at 4.4.4.
 
Other than the colors, I don't see a whole lot of difference with 5.0 on my note 3 (now that it's not backwards! lol). Apps open a little bit faster, but they weren't exactly slow to begin with.

What are you missing in 'lollipoop'?
Samsung patched in most of the stuff that Google jacked up.
 
Color is one of the main reasons I'm not upgrading(the other is having to re-root). I despise bright backgrounds, and try to use dark themes on everything.

That's one of the reasons I hate mobile. This crap should be a trivial change. You shouldn't have to fear updates dicking up your system. Colors are minor from a coding perspective, but it's a dominant part of the experience. Everything mobile is like this. Everything's presented on take it or leave it terms, and a simple update can take it all away.
