I could go on about this but I'd bore you all, but this incident has crossed the line and I just felt like sharing.

In general he's just a really crazy guy. I really don't know who to compare him to. Comparing him to the boss in "office space" is not really accurate - this guy is worse. Comparing him to Hitler is maybe excessive. Though he's kinda like Hitler in a way, just not in the violent way. Everything has to be HIS way, and he has to always be in control of everything.

He has no clue about IT, he's more of a high class business person and it's all work no fun. And everything has to be done NOW and it CANT go wrong. If it goes wrong, better look for another job. He actually fired someone once because he ordered the wrong ram for a server.

Anyway, so when I thought I seen it all, yesterday we get a new COW (medical computer cart - stands for computer on wheels) so the L2 guy starts unwrapping it and such - he has a month to deploy 40 of them on top of all his other projects + the day to day putting out of fires. There's over 500 workstations in this environment, and over 200 printers, and it's a big unorganized mess in general. Almost every day we learn of some software that exists that we did not even know existed. Stuff breaks, all the time. So anyway me and my coworker decide to give him a hand to at least get the first one ready so he has a general idea, since we both saw these before he did. We're L3 so we don't really do any L2 work but every now and then we might give a hand or at least share knowledge.

The IT manager gets all freaked out because we're helping him, instead of each doing our own work. Not the first time he does it either. Once a user came in with some questions and issues so all 3 of us were giving input and what not.

He then goes on about how we should be in different offices so we stop "fooling around". He does not believe people should help each other, he's more the type "everyone for their own".

I need to find a huge "teamwork" motivational poster, and hang it up in the office. There's also this window he constantly looks into to make sure we're working at full tilt, I feel like buying a huge santa claus decoration and putting it right in that window. He's probably against Christmas though. I can see him putting a huge fit because of how "inappropriate" that is. He's actually quite stressed because lot of people will be on vacation for Christmas. This guy is totally insane. I'm so glad he's not my real boss (we're just contractors there).

Anyone else have crazy people they have to put up with on a daily basis?

In a completely different topic, does asbestos dissolve well in coffee? :D

what an asshole.

I could not stand working at a place like that.

I get called upon to 'lend my brain' a lot in the office so about 1/3 of my job is not IT related at all.
I'd invite the fucker out to dinner and tell him how you feel.

I love the despair "Teamwork" poster; sounds appropriate.

Oh, and if he's that much of a prick and he's close to cracking anyway, see if you and your team can push him over the edge. ;)

This guy deserves a well organized office prank. Or just disconnect his car brakes before he leaves work in a way so that they wont go out until about 15 minutes have passed..

Just remember that because of people like him, a company has direction and persistence.

Also because of people like him, mighty companies have gone bankrupt and caused their employees, dependents, stockholders, etc., to be completely SOL.

He's actually been approached many times about it. Normally we tell our boss and our boss takes care of it, which is nice. Once the L2 told his boss too so it was two managers vs him. The crazy guy actually made them stay stuck in his office during a soap box session till like 8:00pm once. Some comments like "they're not your techs, they're my techs and they do what I tell them!"

One comment he made once was when he was talking against a new L2 tech behind his back and we said "he's learning" and the manager says "I don't pay him to learn". Yeah because any guy can just start and know the whole environment off the bat... what a douche lol.

And yeah we're debating on if we want to push him over the edge. I honestly think he's about to get a nervous breakdown. He takes small issues and amplifies them 1000x and makes a huge stress over it. For example our helpdesk will sometimes do a screw up - it happens. He'll remember every single incident and keep bringing them up over and over.

I personally hope our fax server craps out. He wont allow us to turn the single disk into a raid 1 because he's too chicken it might mess up... like come on, I say we should take a small risk to mitigate a big risk. He does not understand that. He wont even let us change the local admin password that everybody knows "in case it breaks something". If something is depending on that password being specific, then it's not setup properly. Time to fix it. Oh man, I could go on about his stupidities.

I think if our SAN ever goes down he's done for. He will stress so much, I think he would just quit on the spot from nervous breakdown after giving us huge hell. I would almost want to see that, but in another way, don't lol. Thing is anything that happens that's not our fault he will still blame us. He could try to get us fired or whatever but our boss (and every single manager of our company) knows very well how insane he is.

"Is This Good for the COMPANY?"

MotionMan

That works too. Someone actually has one of those at our main office lol.

We need one that says "is this fucking good for the company?" It would coincide with this guy's swearing. He swears like a sailor lol. I should pull my christian card out and go to HR saying he offends me. In fact he is very sexist. He pretty much kicked out a tech because she was a girl so our company had to send someone else.

One thing I've observed over the years is that someone who's wound that tight at work has more than a few skeleton's inhabiting the closets at home. Perhaps it's time for a little sleuthing? Nothing like a little a little social reconstruction to lighten your day. :)

lol I would not be surprised if he had literal skeletons. I don't know why he was even admitting this, but he was talking about how his wife was coming down to visit (yeah, even SHE can't stand him so she lives 1000km away LOL) and he had to clean the house because it never been done. He was describing how he had to clean his bath with javex 3 times and it was only starting to get clean. That totally grossed me out. We had a neighboor like that when I lived with my parents. He used to smoke a lot in his house, get drunk, and never cleaned. His mom died in that house from neglect (body later on found after it had been there a while). He recently died in that house too.

So yeah if this is a disease of some sort, this guy could possibly have skeletons in his closet, for real. LOL

Hmm wonder if this would be appropriate LOL

CORPORATE SHAKE-UP

If you've ever worked for a boss who reacts before getting the facts and thinking things through, you will love this!

Arcelor-Mittal Steel, feeling it was time for a shake-up, hired a new CEO.
The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers.

On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, "How much money do you make a week?"

A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, "I make $400 a week. Why?"

The CEO said, "Wait right here." He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, "Here's four weeks' pay. Now GET OUT and don't come back."

Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked,
"Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?"

From across the room a voice said, Pizza delivery guy from Domino's."

Just got sent that joke, thought it was appropriate

A shame about the current job climate. Typically I'd rip that guy a new asshole, and he could either fire me, or straighten his ass out. Now, I guess I'd have to suck it up until things look better :^/

Yeah thing is we could probably get away with it, within reasonable ripping appart. Our manager knows we have to put up with his crap all the time. It's part of the contract we have to be on site, which kinda stinks. We're server guys, we can do stuff remotely, and we'd be 5x more productive without this crazy guy around. He does not realize but he stops our productivity all the time.

and yet you stay slowly losing your soul minute by minute.

Haha I know. Nobody really has the balls to tell him off. My coworker did get into a super heated argument with him once though. Was quite hilarious when he described it to me. This guy is not only an asshole but he's very intimidating. While I have not told him totally off yet, I've learned to be very direct with him and it seems to shut him down at times.

We're all waiting for him to just get a nervous breakdown. He's totally insane lately. Today as I speak he's giving crap to the IS guys, probably over restarded stuff that does not matter.

Sounds like my old boss. Honestly, he's a waste of human skin.

Cares only about himself, comes in to work an hour late wearing jeans, t-shirt, and a baseball hat. Often comes in smelling of booze. Openly tells people he doesn't care and wants projects to fail. Signs contracts with vendors based on his friendships with them or who gives him the best perks. Even when a project won't be completed on time or in a proper manner, tells his boss everything is A-OK. Tells his employees that he'll fire them on the spot if they tell his boss about this stuff.

Former co-worker told me the other week he told someone to undo something they've been working on for 2 weeks. They calmly asked him "before I do this I just want to make sure you understand that I'll be undoing XYZ and ABC will happen?" Boss stands up and yells "do I look like I'm ready to discuss this shit with you? I'm the boss you do what I fucking say!" He repeated the same feet of unprofessionalism to an 8 month pregnant co-worker the next day and then sent her home early for having the audacity to question him.

Meanwhile, he leaves work in the middle of the day to go golfing and get drunk.

His boss is the biggest tool in the world for allowing it to continue.

Do you guys not have HR departments to handle these issues or are you too lazy use the appropriate channels?
