LOL My idiot coworker got phished...

So my coworker got one of those e-mails from "Citibank" saying they lost her information and need her account number and PIN. Nevemind that it's ridiculous that a bank would have lost her account number but NOT her e-mail address. Nevermind that banks NEVER ask for your PIN number. Nevermind that phishing has been all over the news as of late, warning people to not give your account number or PIN to anyone. She still did it.

Next day: Bank account balance = $0.00.

LOL. Idiot.

Citi did end up putting the money she lost back into her account. Good company. Moronic client.

Ouch... That's good of Citibank to help her out, but it's not their place to help. I think they should have taught her a lesson.

Holy mother! I can't believe she did that! She's so darn lucky that they replaced her money!! That loss would put me on the street!

No kidding. Citi is one helluva good company. I've been doing business with them for almost 10 years now (my parents even longer). I don't think most companies would do that for a client (when they weren't even involved).

our course it is their place to help. There are laws and insurance that protect consumers.

Citi has consumer fraud protection to protect their clients, but it is most definitely NOT an obligation. They do so in order to keep their customers satisfied. There isn't any law (that I know of) that requires a company to reimburse their clients simply because their client did something stupid.

yea, citibank can and should help. Those transactions are electronic and thus tracable and recoverable, not like she lost 10K hard cash on the street.

It was a Citi bank account, not a credit account.

I'm pretty sure there are laws out there.

Having funds withdrawn from your account without your consent doesn't seem like something that would be allowed to happen.

Agree that it's not a company's obligation to help her out. I place more blame on the demand, rather than the supply, for scams. She's an idiot and, frankly, I find it scary that her and thousands like her share roads with me 🙁

What does one have to do with the other?

Probably 99% of car accidents are due to user error...

What an idiot. I could see it happening to some old person that sh1ts their pants, but anyone else it happens to pretty much needs to cleansed from the gene pool.

The worst part about this whole thing is that she's got a Ph.D. Apparently common sense isn't a requirement of a doctoral degree.

Isn't there a limit to how much money you can withdraw per day? How the hell did they get all $10,000?

That's for some ATMs but not all.

Transfers OTOH have no limits. Can you imagine trying to transfer money to buy an expensive house if there were limits?

You'd be amazed how dumb some Ph.Ds can be about anything outside of their field.
