Maybe next forum you're on don't bring your gender up at all and you won't have this problem. I'm not justifying what these idiots are doing, but if you draw attention to something that doesn't matter people are going to find a way to make it matter. And yeah I know it'll eventually come up anyway when people call you "he" but maybe you should just go with it.

Also might be smart not inviting people you just met online to meet with you in person.

Really no different that meeting anyone though. You do it smart and not in a secluded place.

Yeah! And next time you're raped, maybe you should have dressed like a man so the attacker wouldn't have targeted you! One should not have to hide their gender so they don't get the creeper brigade harassing them. Stop that victim blame.

Apparently some people can't understand the difference between giving blame and giving advice. Even after I said outright that I'm not justifying what's happening to them. It's like someone keeps getting their stuff stolen and I say they should lock their door, and you come around shouting stuff about victim blaming. Or does the term only apply if the victim is female?

OP is volunteering her gender when no one asked and it's not relevant to anything in the discussion, that's not merely refusing to hide it. But guess what, it's also obvious that some people are extra nice and supportive when the female poster makes her gender known, you can see it in this very thread. Maybe that's enough motivation to go out of your way to announce you're female?

OP, you should really just get a good dick pick and send that to them. That will teach them!

Yeah because I'm sure these are all the same few people doing it over and over again to her, right...

Also helps to actually establish a good reason to do it at all first.

I'm sure it's been addressed already but, whatever:

He found out how dumb your BF is, and assumed you were equally dumb since you are still with him.

Judgement call. :\

That or you could find a picture of the fattest woman you can and start sending them that. Preferrably naked and doing something obscene with a chicken leg.

Applies to everyone. If I leave my car unlocked and someone steals my radio, it isn't my fault they chose to break the law.

OP didn't make her gender known when it wasn't necessary, as it was necessary to how she felt about her boss. She believed her boss was taking advantage of her, because she was female. Your entire post was "well, I'm not justifying their behavior, but you did say you were a female and if you didn't say that, they wouldn't have misbehaved!" Do you also believe that how a women dresses dictates whether or not they should have been raped?

I had no idea someone could get so pissed off at the mention of a female,...

Do you guys turn bright red, growl in anger and then have steam shooting out of your ears when you SEE a female in real life?

lol.

it's actually logical. It looks offensive, but it really isn't, ....in a way.

Eh, doesn't account for the white knights we see everywhere though. Also, according to AT, girls that are 9s and 10s never get hit on, so they wouldn't expect this kind of treatment, despite being in the top 1% of beauty.

Nice place.

Post rant about workplace sucking, and boss treating you bad because you're female.

Board gets on your case because you're female.

Class.

My dad mentioned that where he worked, during meetings, the owner would always ask a woman in the room to go get coffee for everyone. Didn't matter what her normal position was in the company, gender determined who got to be waitstaff. Every time.

Show me where I blamed her. Show me. Come on. I guess saying "I didn't blame her" again isn't going to change anything. If you keep leaving things unlocked and your stuff gets stolen it's not your fault that someone else broke the law and the thief should still be accountable.. and you're still an idiot.

OP didn't make her gender known when it wasn't necessary, as it was necessary to how she felt about her boss. She believed her boss was taking advantage of her, because she was female.

I'm more referring to her sig here. And the part about the boss hating her for being female seems more like guessing than based on something he did in particular, or that information wasn't volunteered along with the gender part..

You know it's funny, in this forum when someone acts like an idiot or looking for attention they don't get treated so nice. Like that mayne guy, it's an inquisition. But when they're looking for attention by telling everyone they're a woman they're untouchable because you know, rape culture.

Personally I could not care less what her gender is, I know some of you are going to deny that but whatever. She was saying she got bombarded by assholes asking her for pics, and I told her that if she kept a lower profile about her gender it wouldn't happen, which is true - and I firmly believe that a lot of people are doing it not just because she's female but because it's in her sig. If she doesn't want to take this advice then that's fine, I really don't care. And if she finds it offensive for whatever reason then she can say it herself.

Your entire post was "well, I'm not justifying their behavior, but you did say you were a female and if you didn't say that, they wouldn't have misbehaved!" Do you also believe that how a women dresses dictates whether or not they should have been raped?

And seems to me you can't argue this without bringing in an outrageous strawman about rape.

I can tell you don't have many friends.

Because I don't invite random people online to meet me in person so I can prove my gender to them even though it shouldn't matter? I've met dozens of people from online irl, but never for reasons like that...

So, the problem is because she brought up her gender? She has to keep a lower profile because some people are going to be creepers if they find out she is a girl? And that is her problem?

Just admit it, you are victim blaming, even if you don't realize it.

No, I'm not admitting that. I never used words like blame or fault, no matter how much you want to think I did. Nor did I say what she has to do.

Yep, exactly.

"If she did (or didn't do) X, Y wouldn't have happened". Replace X any act and Y with an "crime". Typical victim blame.

Funny how you used the female pronoun in your example. I bet you anything if a guy put "I'm a male, get over it!" in his sig and got a bunch of dick pic requests PMs you wouldn't be saying shit about victim blaming. Seems like victim blame is getting thrown around a lot, like if you ask an accuser (female of course) for evidence to substantiate their claim that's also getting called victim blame.

You don't think it's possible that she just wants to be referred to by the pronoun of correct gender?

Personally - and I'm sure this is just me - I don't like assuming gender at all and try to avoid using gender-specific pronouns when the gender hasn't been established by context. It sounds awkward but less than you think, especially when you can often call the thread starter OP or whatever. Or calling them by their forum name in a thread where a bunch of people are talking, could be less confusing.. I mean, you still don't want to totally avoid pronouns, but I'd rather call someone he/she or they (regardless of correctness) even if statistically they're very unlikely to be one or the other in some place. English would be better off with a real gender neutral pronoun, I guess.

Seriously op, call out the people that PM'd you.

Isn't that technically against the rules? I know you aren't allowed to post the contents of a PM without permission from the other party, but you could argue that posting the names after discussing the content effectively does the same thing.

In other words, report them to an admin/higher-up. Harassment of members, regardless of gender, is not acceptable. Unless they're a troll, which in that case, flame on!
