Genius. I've got like 500 of the damn things. Might actually be a useful item in a survival kit

I'm almost 100% sure they aren't stainless steel. There is no reason for them to be. They are probably chromed mild steel or chromed aluminum.

Vrolok - With a tin can or some other sort of can you could heat a small batch of water pretty easily - perfect for an MRE or other mix-with-water meal.

I think I'll still take my mini camping/survival stove over this lil guy. :)

Just make sure you cook all that chrome shit off the steel first, though. Not sure if you'd get sick off of it or not, but do you really want to take a chance?? :hmm:

Considering that they are mostly made in China you better burn that sucker good , no telling what it is coated with.

I've seen them flake before. I'm sure it varies, but AFAIK they're just chromed steel.

What kind of fuel does it use

The smallest survival stove I have will use any kind of solid fuel, but it's a bit more robust than an altoids tin. Then I've got the typical larger camping stoves that use anything from charcoal to propane, etc.

Something that size would be ideal to grill mouse burgers. :awe:

Yes, they are chromed steel. They're the wrong color for stainless, and yes, the coating will flake off if the wire is bent or damaged.

Wikipedia says:
In the United States the dietary guidelines for daily chromium uptake were lowered from 50-200 µg for an adult to 35 µg (adult male) and to 25 µg (adult female).
Acute oral toxicity [for chromium(III)] ranges between 1500 and 3300 µg/kg.
...
The acute oral toxicity for chromium(VI) ranges between 50 and 150 µg/kg.
