I can't comment accurately because I haven't seen the show, but that isn't as absurd as it seems. I was in some fairly high DoD play at one point, and I needed my exact system setup to be any good. Really I'm not sure I'd want a monitor over 17" because the eyes would need to do too much scanning to cover the screen. I have a Samsung 700NF 17" CRT and it's very good for gaming.
Of course his lucrative endorsement deals should seal his fortune for a while.
Besides, it didn't say thats all he dreams about. He just said that when he's rich enough to do that (which he seems to acknowledge he isn't yet) then it will have shown to his parents his justification in being a professional gamer was worth it. Not only that, but he's already exceeded just about any job he would've gotten by getting a college degree (which he would've spend about $50,000+ in getting and would likely be in debt right now if he had).
He is a little weird, but you have to give the guy credit. He's been crowned the best in 5 different games. I know of plenty of people who are really good at games, but they only play one game and thats it. Some others branch out to various games but never really master any of them. He has.
What he's done is not something I could do. I like games, but I couldn't ever play them competitively like that. For him to do so, and basically beat all who have come against him, and make a ton of money off of it is just unreal.
Its also been proven scientifically that being physically fit boosts your mental ability as well.
Chances are he can last longer being a pro gamer than someone in a "real" sport. His mind should remain plenty sharp for years to come. Its possible that the fatigue on his eyes and wrists will get to him, but if he stays in shape he shouldn't have to worry as much as a normal athlete (who can easily play for 10-15+ years depending on the sport and position). The real thing to see is if he'll stay interested enough to keep playing.
He'll start to lose more though. For one, the "sport" isn't that popular yet, and so there's plenty of room for more competition, and it invariably happens. Look at basically every sport ever, and you'll see that the early greats get eclipsed by the newer generations.
The real question has nothing to do with him though. Is professional gaming going to become a staple of modern society? Right now plenty of people know/are aware of it, but will it ever become as mainstream as the sports we know?

Eh, what is he gonna do if one day he wakes up and sucks at video games? Go back to tech support making $10/hr?
If I were in his shoes, I'd wait until I seal some endorsement deal, not just placing everything on just collecting prize money.
Which, watching the video, seems like he has done.. I didn't realize the "Fatal1ty" products were named after him, I thought he took his name from the products. Since that's the case I dunno why he's still living at home...

Wow, that interview was horrible. It was totally geared towards 80 year olds who never played a video game in their life, so the explanation of the games themselves was on a kindergarden level. 
I was hoping for something more in depth, but I was probably asking too much from 60 minutes.

But i do envy him and all so hey.
also he needs to stop putting his "name" on low and mid-ranged video cards! if he is supposed to be the best gamer and all they should only make high end parts with his name

i would imagine he has to travel a lot and all over the world for competitions and whatnot.

I'm pretty much the same way. If you're good, people will know by watching you. You don't need to act like you're the best or talk about how good you are.

I am too. I didn't know if it was on tonight or not. I only really watched it because I was flipping channels (NFC Champ game wasn't too exciting), but I watch bits of it from time to time. I caught some of their main story about the oil. If nothing else, it reminds me of a different perspective from which to consider things.
