Perhaps, but more money is made in the mid to low end markets simply through higher volume of sales.

More money made = more revenue generated. More revenue does not equal more profit. ATi is selling at a loss with video cards at the moment. They are currently at a net loss for profit.

Your argument is ignorant and idiotic.

I wouldnt say that. ATI was quoted a couple of years ago that a highend card will be outsold about 30:1 by the mid tier cards and about 150:1 by the lowend.

The secret is making a high enough margin on the middle\low end to turn a profit. you will generate a lot more volume on the low end. ATI IMO has always had a terrible rollout plan and never really took advantage of what the middle and lowend can provide.

With the 9700 Pro it took them about 5-6 months to get a mid tier card out to kill the 4600. And when it showed up (9500) it was using a 9700 Pro core and thus cost too much to make much of anything on. It is like they dont quite get the market or something. They come out with half ass'd launches and hope for the best.

ATI could have destroyed Nvidia if the 9500 showed up within a month of the 9700 pro and had a different core designed for that segment(9600). But they didnt and Nvidia lived off the 4600 and the 5900 until the NV40.

Except delays and delays lead to a lack of belief in the dates for ANY part they have mentioned.

Maybe the judge will let them make cards instead of license plates in prison, and they can meet the deadline?

Ya you got me in stiches! R515 . ATI having problems so they delay their low end card.

If I was going to read something into a 4 or 8 pipe card release being delayed I won't be thinking the way most here are.

Sorry, could not resist, hopefully some got a chuckle. :)

Ya I am in stiches .So what you think ATI is having problems with their low end card. or is it their low end card performs on par with their current high end cards and ati wants to sell out their current stock in the value market in the Xmas holiday season.

I'm just going by all the hype surrounding the card. I should say all the hype from the original tape out of course. Assuming the R520 is what they will be releasing in a couple weeks or so, it may be completely different. I just don't want to buy a G70 today, and then find out two weeks from now that the R520 is 30% faster for the same price. Then again the 7800 GTX can be had for as little as $390 now at Pricewatch. That's just crazy. In about two months time the G70 which debuted at about $650 has depreciated almost 50% in price in only a 2 month period. That's just incredible even for the computer industry!

Of course the current price it's at now is what it should have debuted at anyway but hey, nVidia has probably made the bulk of the their money off the G70 that they're going to make on it, so they made out pretty well!

Ya really should make people think. Why is nvidia being so good to us the consumers?

Maybe they know more about what ATI has coming out than anyone of us. DA!

Looking at the Ati Road Map and seeing the R520XL with 16pipes, you can't help but wonder if these are soley based on binned "pipe failed" units which Ati must have more of than anything else.

And then you have to wonder if these will even out-perform a 16 pipe X850XT PE enough for anyone to want to pay the premium.

But I guess the R520XL will have SM 3.0, so yeah, of course you will want one

I think your mistaken. It doesn't say anywhere about 16 pipes for the R520 XL. Actually, it doesn't say how many pipes it will have or what clock speed any of the R520 will have. I would imagine though the R520 XL will have the same amount of pipes the R520 XT has. The only difference will probably be the clock and memory speeds just like the X800 XL and the X800 XT. I can't say for sure since it hasn't been officially announced though.

That said, if you know of some new information that's been outed PLEASE let us know!!! :D

LOL, it does'nt mention 16pipes there. I obviously read it somewheres else. Some guy named Sherman over at Rage3d R520 Forum did I think.

Where do you see $390 for a 7800gtx? The lowest I've found was $490.

My bad or rather Pricewatch's bad. If you go to the video card section at Pricewatch, it will say a GeForce 7800 GTX $390. When you click on the link, you find out it's actually a 7800 GT! The actual lowest price for a 7800 GTX is $478 http://www.bestbargainpc.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2935 .....sorry.

Damn right. I think its fair to say ATI will drop the X800GT's price even more and fill the budget category until the RV515 is out.

Postponing the launch because roadmap was compromised is a poor excuse, maybe they wanted to drive that point around to those who dont get it ? So people who have access to such roadmaps, listening ? rofl

Roadmaps are available to all . now you do have to pay for some white papers. The leaks are coming from other places though. I think when its all done the focus will be on the memory controller.
