The article doesn't explain the increase in power consumption after his renovations. It seems hard to believe the changes haven't made the house more efficient. Maybe he's doing even more work there now?

What an ass-backwards comparison. They're comparing energy used by Al Gore for 1 year to energy used by average us home for 1 month. Why not say that:
Energy used by Al Gore in past year could power 20 us homes?
Stupid journalists and their exaggeration. Sadly, many Americans won't catch this.

was it not as impressive to say that the power Gore's house consumes in a month could power 19.33 houses for a month?

You're right, spidey. I'm using the term 'brilliant' strictly in the business sense.
And why worry? Gore is a lot like Slick; You could have the guy on videotape robbing a bank and we'd have a board full of liberals telling us all the great things Al was going to do with that money.

The average person also doesn't do the typical things Al Gore does out of his home. I'm not saying it's right, but to compare him to the average household is unfair. And who's to say that after he installed all of the new equipment that he didn't move more things to his home for work reasons.

I love how people think that to care about the environment, you have to live in fricking tent. The guy used to be Vice President, I'd expect him to have a larger house that will naturally consume more electricity.

My guess is that Al Gore just SLI'd two of the new Nvidia GTX280's. 😛

You're absolutely right, I have no problem what so ever with him using all that power because he probably has a lot of money and can afford it. What I have a problem with is him using all that power and telling me and every other Joe Q. Public average American that we need to cut down on our energy consumption and do more for the environment.

haha I just posted the same thing in P&N.....ahhh misleading the public.
AND if the outright lying in the articl weren't bad enough...
This is just propaganda.
Al Gore already explained that he uses his home as his office and does filming and interviews there. He did a major green renovation which reduced the electric consumption to what it is now.
It is unfair to compare a small film studios electric use to that of the average homeowner.
I caught that too.Originally posted by: Argo

I don't get this...is this power he's getting from solar, geothermal, etc, or is it additional power he's pulling from the grid?

Snopes says he works at home, I wonder how much travel he actually does in his daily life.
Might be more fair to compare the average American's energy usage at work and at home, plus add in approximate values based on car fuel consumption.
How many people live in his home? It's a big home with probably large cooling/heating bills.
