In related news, the power used in halik's home in the past decade could power the whole world for 10 seconds!

The article doesn't explain the increase in power consumption after his renovations. It seems hard to believe the changes haven't made the house more efficient. Maybe he's doing even more work there now?

..ya. he's growing dope indoors for his constituency.

holy shit ! Here in the United States the energy the average home uses in a year could power 12 average homes for a month!

What an ass-backwards comparison. They're comparing energy used by Al Gore for 1 year to energy used by average us home for 1 month. Why not say that:

Energy used by Al Gore in past year could power 20 us homes?

Stupid journalists and their exaggeration. Sadly, many Americans won't catch this.

Guess he is leading by an example just like when a cop goes speeding by you at 60mph in a 45.

Now, what's really hard to believe is somebody preaching conservation is USING 10% MORE ENERGY than the year before, and 20 times the average home.

That's what is hard to believe. I believe it however and that's what makes anything he says hogwash. You are defined by your actions, and Gore's actions are what defines him and nothing else.

was it not as impressive to say that the power Gore's house consumes in a month could power 19.33 houses for a month?

No, just like all numerical comparisons people get confused by numbers. Take for example "OMG! Oil companies made huge billions in profit!!! Wrong"
counter - "10% profit margin is quite normal for any large company"
"ZOMG!! But zee billions!!!!"

The average person also doesn't do the typical things Al Gore does out of his home. I'm not saying it's right, but to compare him to the average household is unfair. And who's to say that after he installed all of the new equipment that he didn't move more things to his home for work reasons.

You're right, spidey. I'm using the term 'brilliant' strictly in the business sense.

And why worry? Gore is a lot like Slick; You could have the guy on videotape robbing a bank and we'd have a board full of liberals telling us all the great things Al was going to do with that money.

The mental energy you expended dreaming up that post could probably light 5 farts a day for an entire month.

You have really got to be kidding me. I'm super cereal.

To compare him to the average household is completely fair. Because the fact remains that if he would share his work related energy consumption with others he would be more efficient and use less.

But he doesn't. Do as I say, not as I do.

My guess is that Al Gore just SLI'd two of the new Nvidia GTX280's. 😛

You're absolutely right, I have no problem what so ever with him using all that power because he probably has a lot of money and can afford it. What I have a problem with is him using all that power and telling me and every other Joe Q. Public average American that we need to cut down on our energy consumption and do more for the environment.

haha I just posted the same thing in P&N.....ahhh misleading the public.

AND if the outright lying in the articl weren't bad enough...

This is just propaganda.
Al Gore already explained that he uses his home as his office and does filming and interviews there. He did a major green renovation which reduced the electric consumption to what it is now.
It is unfair to compare a small film studios electric use to that of the average homeowner.

He always seems to be all over the country away from the home. Also, what films has he made recently?

the article didn't need to exaggerate, that was unnecessary. if the average american consumption and emissions is at least a couple earths amount if all people on earth followed the same lifestyle, gores is 20x worse. thats all u need to know. its the little hypocrisies...

if you drive a prius and fly around the globe its pretty much nullified your efforts a couple times over...and at that point theres little ground to stand on pointing fingers at suv driving soccer moms.

Snopes says he works at home, I wonder how much travel he actually does in his daily life.

Might be more fair to compare the average American's energy usage at work and at home, plus add in approximate values based on car fuel consumption.

How many people live in his home? It's a big home with probably large cooling/heating bills.

You can only make an old style house like that so efficient before tearing the whole thing down and starting fresh.

Not saying his energy usage is high, but how high is it compared to other people in his neighbourhood?

I caught that too.

"...could power over 10,916,423 LED flashlights for a second."

I hate statistical spin.

Actually, thats GREAT journalism, you make a sensational headline without lying

I don't get this...is this power he's getting from solar, geothermal, etc, or is it additional power he's pulling from the grid?

Intentionally misleading is not great journalism.

They got the usage from the power company with a public records request. That sure sounds like the usage is from the power company outside of any other sources.

Yep, it costs quite a bit to heat a swimming pool.

I'll start acting like 'man-made Global Warming' is a problem when the people who keep telling me it is a problem act like it is a problem.
