Logitech's RMA is Awesome

My MX510 mouse started to get this high pitched whining sound coming from the actual mouse, I can hear it even from an arms length away. I have used it for over 3 months, so I could no longer return it to amazon.com where I bought it. I called Logitech Customer Support and the guy decided to give me an RMA. Appearently, they are sending me a new mouse in 10-12 business days and I can keep the old mouse. I know Logitech is an excellent company, but this sounds too good to be true. Will anyone care to tell me about their experiences with Logitech's RMA?

maybe they feel bad because the noise means that the laser is broken and now you have cancer? 😛 just buggin, sounds like they are just a good company to me, which goes along with everything else I've heard about them....

I've never had to RMA a Logitech mouse but I did get a replacement for a MS Mouse by just faxing a copy of the bottom of the mouse and I also got to keep the old one. Maybe Logitech is being competitive.

Logitech is where it's at for cost-effective speakers, and input devices (namely mice, keyboards, and mice/keyboard combinations).

Logitech's biggest competitor is Microsoft in the input hardware category, so it's no surprise that they'll go an extra length to keep its customers satisfied with their products. I would not be surprised if they are simply following standard RMA protocol for your situation.

I'm just surprised since the R in RMA usually stands for return, if I'm not mistaken. The guy on the phone use the word, replacement, and he said to just keep the old mouse in case I needed to look up the serial number.

EDIT: Plus I've seen a lot of refurbished Logitech items on ebay, so I thought they would want my mouse back so they can fix it and resell it.

I had to RMA my first MX700 Logitech mouse, they let me keep the old mouse as well. Didn't help me any though, the mouse was shot, so I pitched it once the new mouse arrived. I've had that replacement MX700 for over a year now. I'm thinking of getting an MX1000 to replace it.

I RMAed a MX700 and still have the old dead one. The new one is also dead. I kept having problems with the mouse connecting to the base. I now have an MX 510.

That's awesome, cause my MX510 is still usuable. I can't even hear the noise it makes when I'm listening to music or playing games, it's just REALLY annoying when I'm not. I can probably use it as a backup for LAN parties or something.

what if you lied. you would get 2 working mouses.

That's evil, don't abuse good, respectable companies like Logitech. That will just cause them to lose money and stop putting out great products and support. Just do it to Microsoft mice or soemthing. But yeah, I don't know how they would tell if the mouse was actually broken or not.

heh u just cant beat wires

specially for gaming, i can definately notice lag on my friend MX700/710 its the wireless bluetooth one my MX510 is wired and is well fast,

theres gonna have to be a wire at some stage, theres still a wire going from the base to the usb so if your mouse is like another 20cm why not just have a wired one? no recharge, no lag, no batteries, and its light what more could u want?

There's a MX710?

But as for your wired mouse comments, I totally agree. The reason I'd buy a wireless mouse is one of those super portable ones for my laptop. My dad has one where the USB transmitter is stored inside the mouse itself and all you do is take it out and plug it in like a USB stick drive.

I had a top of line MS explorer which crapped out. I told them the model number over the phone. They sent a new one but not the right model, almost as good but next one down. I called back to ask them what to do. They told me to keep the mistake and they sent me the right one. So MS customer service is equally good if not better. Now have the MX 510 BTW.

Oh man, I just got the new mouse! It's only been 3 days since I called Logitech, plus they shipped using DHL! This is kinda sweet, I have 2 working MX510s, although one is really annoying to use because of the high pitched whine. I'm pretty honest, so I'm not going to try to RMA any other of my Logitech items unless they are legitamately defective and I hope this doesn't encourage other people to do so. You'll just be screwing over yourself and the rest of us because then Logitech will lose money and be stricter on their RMAs and charge more for their products.

damn. thats pretty cool. anyone have good expriences with other companies?

btw why everyone hating on MS,its bad but no it's not as bad as everyone say it is.

edit: spelling

I've written about this problem extensively. I have also complained to Logitech about it, who denied there was any problem. For details, please see my site covering all Logitech product bugs and flaws that I have experienced.

If you want the name and number of the manager at Logitech who told me there "is no such noise being emitted from these mice", let me know and I will provide it. I can't provide it on the site because I was threatened with legal action.

Isn't it kinda sad that adequate service is something to gush over? You bought a high-margin product that is defective. It has a warranty. They replaced it under terms of same. It is not worth their time or expense to bother dealing with the actual return of such a low-cost of manufacture item (especially knowing the defect exists and thus assuming your claim is not bogus in order to lose less profit on the transaction due to processing). It is surprisingly nice that the replacement was received in only three days but it still could have been bog-standard ground service and your address just happened to be close to the warehouse.

Please, everyone stop blurting out "RMA" like a Tourette's sufferer when it does not actually mean a merchandise return, warranty service or exchange but only an authorization to proceed with same.

Heh, I had a pair of Z-2200 2.1 speakers that, very oddly, started "crackling" out the left channel after about 4 months. It was behind a UPS too so probably not a power spike. I called Logitech and they sent me a set of Z-2300 speakers that arrived in the same week. Not sure why they did that substitution but I went ahead and hooked up the sub. Pretty painless.

I was surprised with the good service since I have had bad exeriences with a lot companies with poor service, the experience was refreshing. I was also surprised that Logitech sent the product out quickly as opposed to the actual shipping being fast. I know RMA doesn't actually mean the return or exchange, but I used the term because it has been commonly used like that around forums and the internet. I have even heard a tech support guy say "You can RMA it to us."

Yeah Logitech is GREAT with RMA's. I have a set of thier Z-640 speakers that the headphone jack broke on the center channel control pod which cause no sound to come out of the other speakers. I called them up and they send me a new set of speakers and even told me once I get the new ones to open up the old set control pod and move a peice of metal that was most likely caussing a short and making sound not to to the other speakers. Long story short doing this fixed my old set so I now have 2 sets of Z-640's and they didn't care a bit.

I put my ear next to the mouse (I have a MX-510), and I hear the squeal. Sounds exactly the same as the wav file. Very odd.
