Logitech's RMA is Awesome

I had a defective control pod on my logitech z-680s, the headphone jack won't work. Logitech replaced it for me, but i had to pay and ship my defective one back to them first, which rendered my speakers useless for 12 days. I wasn't too impressed with their RMA service. IF they really wanted to impress me, they'd ship my replacement pod to me wth a return shipping sticker, then give me 15 days to send the defective one back or charge me for the replacement. That way i still would've had use of my speakers in the interim. Regardless, they didn't try to cover up and refuse to replace it or anything so i guess i can't really complain that much.

any of you guys notice a squeaky noise when using the mouse wheel?
Ever notice small trails of crumbs, and pieces missing out of cheese sandwiches left on your desk near your keyboard while you're away from your desk?

How much do you think it cost to build an MX-510? I'd say 5$ considering you can buy a dvd player for 20$. This might have something to do with great rma services on mice.

You're not pauing for the cost of manufacturing it, you're paying for the research. If they didn't charge more for the better products, there wouldn't be any "better" products to buy.

Now that you mention it when I listen up close to my MX510 I hear that noise too lol. no bigie as I normaly have music playing but hopefuly it won't get worse.

The problem I have with this high-pitch noise coming from the mice is that it's *constant*. It's not just when you push a button or use the mouse -- it's constant high-frequency noise going into your ear.

It drives me CRAZY. I prefer a very quiet environment to work in (the background noise in the WAV files has since been fixed 😛), so hearing this noise drives me batty.

I would switch to another mouse -- which as you can see from my page, proved that it was specific to Logitech mice -- but no other mice out there are as wonderful as the MX510, and none have all the features that it does. I have ZERO interest in wireless mice (the idea of recharging my mouse does not interest me), so buying a MX700 or MX1000 as a workaround is not an option for me.

If only I could show you folks (and let you listen, as I recorded the phone calls) how Logitech's Support managers handle these situations. I was practically called a liar by the Support manager in Fremont (which I find odd, since Support is actually in Louisiana or Georgia or something like that -- how do you manage a department while across the US?!). The letter they wrote me is proof of that -- they deny there is any problem with these mice.

What makes no sense to me is how they can deny there's a problem with the mice when literally every person I run into says they can hear the noise (despite some having to put their ear closer to the mouse). I even managed to figure out which part is causing the noise -- which can be easily replaced in their fabs -- yet they wish to deny the problem.

Very sad.

I know. But when they replace one for free that's what important for them.

Update for those concerned about this problem:

Today I received my Logitech MX518, in hopes that our customer support calls and general social discussions of this matter would induce Logitech to address the problem: Sadly, I must report that the MX518 emits the exact same high pitch noise as all of Logitech's previous models.

Those hoping to "upgrade" to the MX518 to address this issue will be disappointed.

I have also updated my Logitech product flaws page to reflect the MX518 suffering from the same problem.
