Amazon usually has the best price on these bad boys, but they had them at $306.99 around Christmas. Looks like they brought it back down. Extremely tempting.

You think these things will get even cheaper by February?

For anyone doubting this product, here's a quote from a review:

"But excess can also get you into some rather weird and bad situations also. Take me for instance, I am happily testing the system volume levels out in the Tweaknews office by gaming and listening to a little Lil' Jon & the Eastside Boyz and I thought all was well...until the next morning.

At 9:00am I was woken up with a rather loud knocking at my suite's front door. Opening the door revealed the building's property manager handing me a noise violation complaint that was filed and the manager's office by my next door neighbor. This would sound perfectly right seeing I was easily hitting 130+dB when testing the system at higher volume levels but there is one interesting thing I have to inform you about my neighbor...

She is completely deaf. No joke, she can't hear a thing. Nadda...Zilch...

What I guess caused her to file the complaint is that I cleared 13 pictures off of the adjacent wall where our two suites attach. And yes, that wall was the same wall where the subwoofer was placed. From what I was told, I vibrated that wall so badly that almost all of her paintings, photos, trinkets or whatever vibrated and fell down.

So what's the moral of the story? This system is so loud it will piss even deaf people off..."

The Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras are undoubtedly better. Why get these when you can buy a set like the Ultras?

Why? They're cheaper.

That may be true, but not by much. And the Ultras are better, no doubt about that.

hi, i'm thenotebook.
through a freak accident, i have no testicles.

Do the ultras have Dolby Digital, and Hardware decode DTS?? I have the Z560 and owned 2 sets of Klipsch and I will never go back myself. I wish I had the funds for the new 5500's 🙁

Undoubtedly?? Hardly. Are you stating fact or opinion? It's unwise to make such subjective comments. This is a great price for a set of speakers that are worth more.

How are these compared to the Z680? I bought the Z680 speakers, but found that sub to be WAY too boomy sounding... do these suffer from teh same boominess?

Anandtech Hot Deals - Where Klipsch fanboys have to storm Logitech speaker threads about how much better the Klipsch are. Usually with no valid arguements.

Time and time this has been proven true. I should sig that.

You know what? I bought these from amazon.com before xmas for 165. They are nice speakers but do not have near the bass as my 680;s or 560;s. Anyone know why that it? THE SUB IS HUGE!!!!!

You sure you didn't get a lower model? There is the Z5300 or whatever. Wattage for the subwoofer is the same as the 560s, 188 watts.

That's impossible. The lowest I've ever seen these was $220 and that was with coupons and stacking discounts at D#!!. That deal only lasted about 4 hours because they sold them out so quick.

Yes, I got the z 5500's! 🙂 LOL. They really do not have more bass....just to go compusa and test them out. I was astonished to find that out when I used mine. The bass all the way up on the 5500's is equal to about bass all the way down on the 560's when playing some of the music I have. I do not know why it is....it seems like it would have more

I think he meant $265, which was the deal I got at amazon for these about a couple weeks before xmas. The price was fluctuating a lot back then, even on the same day, but this is the lowest I saw it at.

from the many reviews ive read...the 5500 even best the top of the line klipsch...and when i heard them both side by side...i thought so too....just my $0.02 though...

hehehe, yeah...well they have to console themselves somehow for buying name over quality.

these are very tempting to get. I was stuck between these and the klipsch, but heard lots of complaints about the amp dieing in the klipsch. Are these worse or better than the gigaworks s750 (saying that it will be using 5.1 not 7.1)?

Only in your dreams! The Klipsch's have no digital decoder and no remote.

Yeah, the SQ of the Klipsch really suffers b/c of this...?

You guys are silly. Don't base your opinion on stupid responses in this thread. If you are serious about paying $200 - $300 for some nice multimedia speakers, then get off your butt and buy both systems from Best Buy and audition them in your HOME (not in the store, since subwoofers are never placed correctly at BB). I know if I were about to drop $300 on speakers, the least I could do is make sure I am going to be satisfied with them.

Both systems are great. Price shouldn't be a huge factor, since the difference is less than $50 and you will be paying $250 - $300. The Klipsch at Dell a few weeks ago were MUCH cheaper than this, but that doesn't matter either.

After deciding what speaker systems sounds better you have to make other decisions. Do you care about the remote/decoder, or will you be using this primarliy on your computer? If yes, do you want the remote/decoder included in the system or do you like the Klipsch enough to spend another $50 - $100 for decoder?

As for the reliability of these systems, I'd say its not a factor. The old Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's had an amp problem which was fixed and is no longer an issue with the Ultra's. Chances are the failure rates are somewhat equal for both systems.

LONG STORY SHORT: Before buying $300 speakers, don't listen to people on the internet, LISTEN TO THE SPEAKERS! (Lol, one would think this is common sense)
