Logitech MX510

Runner20

Im a hardcore first person shooter gamer and lately in some games my mouse cant keep up. Other players with a better mouse cream me. Maybe its just my skills, but I feel that I need a new mouse.

Any of you noticed significant or slight improvement in your gaming after getting the MX510? Especially shooter games.

Also do you need to adjust the setting somewhat since I hear this mouse is ultra sensitive? Thanks.

imo, i dont think it's worth it. for an extra 10-20 dollars you could have the mx700 which is wireless and can be recharged. what mouse do you have currently?

A plain Logitech optical mouse which is pretty old I believe

i already own that mouse (together with a everglide large-attack v3 optical smoke mouse pad). my last mouse was a M$ wireless intellimouse explorer 2.0 [have 2 of those .....doh] and the point i changed was, well....because it was wirless, and i didn't like that point, especially for fps gaming. now i have the mx510 ... and.... damn - it's one hell of a mouse. yes - it's very sensitive, but you don't have to change much (well, ingame - your feeling\your playing....that's another point).

so, Runner20, if you're a dedicated fps gamer, go for a mx510 - it is worth it.

Not to hijack your thread but can you use all the buttons on the mx510 in games as well as use them in Windows (close application, double click, etc.)?

Nope, any suggestions/comments/questions are welcomed
😀

I dont know about the extra buttons, but from the looks of it, it looks like a comfortable mouse

Yeah, all the buttons can be utilized in both the windows environment and in games. Except, for some reason, in certain games like those put out by Novalogic. So I can't use any extra buttons in Black Hawk Down or Joint Ops, bummer. But I really do love this mouse, those extra buttons are now a necessity for me. The way I have it set up in Windows is the very top button above the scroll wheel is close application, the button directly under the scroll wheel is copy, the one below that is paste, the one under my thumb on the side is back and the one above that is forward. So when I play a game like, oh I don't know, Neo Tokyo, I use the button under the scroll to reload, the one under my thumb to scope and the one above it to cloak. It really is a pretty sweet setup. Oh, and I did adjust the sensitivity to the max, which means you have to use the ps2 port and the drivers, of course. Plus without the drivers you can't change the buttons on the top and bottom of the scroll whell to anything you want cause by default they're set to scroll up and scroll down, respectivly. I also can't get the very bottom button to work in games.

And as for the sensitivity, you really can tell a difference without it. I just got this new comp for a back up, and to get it all set up I'm using the MX510 (cause I just can't stand using anything else). Since this isn't the main gaming rig, I won't be using this mouse on it so I didn't install the drivers. I went to play an FPS and, d@mn, is there a difference...

This mouse is awesome!

BTW Runner, did you find that article benificial?

Got my Logitech Cordless Desktop MX few days ago. The combo has MX700 mouse.

This is a hell of a mouse. The best I ever used, wired or wireless. The mouse is also awesome for games. It is very fast and precise.
Before I was using the best Cordless from Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't any close to the Logitech mouse.

I'd say, go ahead the MX700. It also sports Bluetooth version.

MX700 is great, almost all reviews say its awesome. But I prefer wired mice because of their lighter weight and no batteries.

Wow thats pretty cheap, yeah the blue one looks amazing. I'll probably get the mouse at Best Buy though, but if they only have the red one then I'll order at Amazon. Thanks man

Got my MX520 (in blue) a week or two ago....love it...quite comfortabe for people with large hands, the "cruise control" feature is nice, and you can set the button to be useing in any game. I would say it is worth it.....Anyway, they probably give you crappy Nickel Cadmium batteries with the MX700. (no, dont put NiMH batteries in a charger meant for NiCads!!)

NiCads have been proven to have "memory"...if you chrage it before it is dead, it remembers how low it got last time, and over time, it will not go below a certain point if you do no fully drain it before charging it....NiMH is the opposite....don't run it dry, keep it charged.

MX700 come with NiMH batteries!

got mine on sale for about 25 bucks. yeah i say it's worth it.

tracks a lot better than my old logitech optical. before, when i move too fast it wouldn't register the movement but now no matter how quickly i move i can't screw it up

I am borrowing a friend's MX510 at this moment, but i do not see any response difference from my MS intellimouse. The friend said that if u install the Logitech drivers that came with the mouse (which i didnt), then u will see a difference in accuracy and response.

Is this true? If it isnt then i think i can cope with my MS mouse for a little bit more.

Well... the MX500 is available here, but the MX510 is not...

I have staying in the USA and when he/she was coming back to India, I simply use my credit card to get the gadgets delivered to his residence. He simply carries them along on the way back 🙂

Runner20,the Logitech MX1000 (first laser cordless mouse) is due to be released very soon, so you might want to wait and see how that performs from reviews etc,I`m in the market for a new gaming mouse and have decided to wait for the new MX1000.
