Those nice folks down at Logitech sent me one free of charge because my MX700 has been acting up and it was the only choice that I had(had to pay extra for the G7). They also allowed me to keep the MX700 :)

I take it you had a firm requirement for wireless? Either way, the mx-1000 is good, I really don't like wireless personally. Had an mx500 that I loved for many years, picked up a 518 that was good but, overpriced, about a week after release I picked up a g5 after getting to play with them at work and I LOVE the g5!

Well I didn't ask about wired mice but my heart is set on wireless anyways. I'm a sucker for asethtics and that extra little wire on the back of a mouse spoils it. Not to mention I've grown used to the "freedom" of a wireless mouse and I like the added weight. Every other mouse just seems flimsy in comparision(haven't actually seen/used any of the newer Logitechs yet)

I like my MX1000 for the most part. When I first got it, iti would jump randomly while scrolling, but an update to the setpoint drivers fixed this.

I love my MX1000. I got the G5, took it back
Then i got the G7, took that back as well to get a new MX1000.

The DPI to me is perfect. Playing BF2 and COD2 was sloppy. Even with tuned down DPI the handling wasnt good. It took me about 2 days intiially to get used to the MX1000 but after that I loved it.

It's better than the MX700 for sure. I think you'll like it.

I have MX1000 and I love it...I like it for the fact that its a bit heavy than others. It feels good when you place your hand on it. It has the most perfect grip among all the mice. You might find it a bit weird in the begining but you will get used to it after a while and then you wont touch any other mouse! One thing though, I dont like the software that comes with it.

What difference does a higher DPI make?
I have a MX500 mouse and it's wonderful... What would make something with a higher DPI better than this one?

I <3 my MX1000, awesome mouse. I will never, ever understand how people can put up with a wired mouse after using a good wireless mouse, its like going back to 56k from broadband

Higher DPI is supposed to make you more accurate it games but, I've found that anything above 800 or 1000 just makes the movements too large and slpooy. For extreme acuracy 400dpi is great, I've trained my hand to single pixel movements at 400dpi and 800 is perfect for regular run and gun with good enough precsion but, with a chaingun or mini-gun or something to that effect 2000 can be fun to just run around flailing like a ceizure putting a bullet or two into everything.

I, too, had a MX1000 sent to me after problems w/my MX700. It seems to have a mind of its' own...doesn't want to move easily no matter what type of surface it's on...have to double-click at times when only a single-click should be necessary.
I know it isn't the PC because I tried it on both my wifes & my machine.
I ended up hooking an MX500 for her & hooked up my Razer Boomslang back up to mine. Yeah, they're wired...yeah, my Razer has a ball, but neither act stupid! :)
Perhaps i'll call Logitech back up & see how much difference i'd have to pay for a G5 or a G7...to use as a standby for my Boomslang! ;)

Right now I got three computers (one laptop and two desktops) at my house that uses the MX1000 and I love them.

MX1000 ftw

Only thing is when I forget to recharge the battery, not that it needs it that often, full charge lasts around a week.

I returned my MX1000. Too small/short. The shell used in MX500/700/900/G5/G7 is much better.
