Logitech Harmony Remotes

We have a home theater and managing the different remotes is a nightmare. I was thinking of buying one of the Logitech Harmony remotes.

Probably this one:
Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote

I have the following components:
Xbox 360
TV
AV
Sattellite receiver with DVR
DVD Player

Are all the buttons on the remote customizable?

Do you think it was worth the 100 bucks?



 
I have the Harmony 550. All of the buttons are customizable, and I'd say that it's worth the $100. As long as you don't have any REALLY old or oddball equipment, you should be able to program everything without any problems.

Does the 360 have a learn function though? On my 880 I was able to get an old POS Sherwood 2030 programmed in with the learning function.
 
The Harmony remotes are considered the best in their price class. If you wanted to spend a bit more, consider the Harmony 880.
 
I have the 659. I paid $50 for mine and wish I had bought it much, much sooner. Sooooo much hassle averted with it.
 
I picked up that 360 remote for $60 shipped and I don't even have an xbox360. I'm hoping I can customize those controller buttons, or I suppose I can just get the 360

Yes, the Harmony has learning functions. I've never had to chance to use it, though... All of my newer equipment was in the database, and I didn't have a remote for the really old Panasonic VCR in order to program the scroll wheel commands that it didn't know.
 
i bought an 880 on craigslist for $120. probably one of the best things i ever bought. you can set your 'activities' so one button will activate dvd mode, which turns on my tv, sets it to video2, turns on my stereo/amp, turns on my dvd player, all with 1 push. it controls my logitech system, my air conditioner, tv, stereo, although i dont think you can use it with bose systems.

search around and i think youll find a good deal, and you wont be disappointed.

I got this one as a present for Christmas and liked it so much that I bought another for the bedroom TV ($60).

And yes, the buttons are customizable. The remote comes with software that allows you to customize to your liking.
 
Just recently picked one up... don't know the model, it was $150 though. It is a dream for those who have 8+ remotes.

I'd recommend to anyone with the extra cash for it.

Thanks for all the responses.

I don't mind spending the money, but I am averse to the internal battery on the 880. I am more comfortable with the AA batteries on the the lower end models in the Harmony series.

I have a bad feeling the internal battery can't be replaced and will have trouble holding a charge in 18 months.
 
I have the 880 and my only complaint is it is almost impossible to use without using both hands due to the smooth plastic shell and the location and size of the number pad buttons. Even with that I still love it.
 
I am on my second set of 659's (thanks to the abuse by my kids). I absolutely L-O-V-E them. I think I would go crazy without them.

My brother-in-law and cousin-in-law also have Harmony remotes.

They really are great!

I have the 880 and love it. I have a pretty complex setup and I only need that remote. Even my untechie GF has no problems switching between dvd's, tv, DVR, and xbox360.
 
my dad just got me a harmony 720. i haven't really had a chance to play with it yet but it looks nice. i'll try and program it when i get back home.

I just got an 880 for my birthday. YEA!!! I have a crap load of stuff I need to control, including lighting, and I have no fear that it will be able to control all my equipment.

I have
Media Center PC
5x1 HDMI switch
4x1 Component switch
Projector
XBOX 360
Lighting control
Logitech z680s (I really should have got a reciever for christmas instead of the switches)

It works fine with my Scientific Atlanta DVR, although I did end up remapping some of the buttons so I could control it better. I've heard that it works with Tivo's as well.

I'm looking for optimal button placement to operate the TV and DVR. Which buttons did you remap and why?

For some reason, they didn't program the up arrow and down arrow buttons on the remote by default, and they didn't program the A and B buttons on the remote. Since I have a ton of channels to wade through, I programmed the up and down arrows as Page Up and Page Down for the channel guide. The A and B buttons also control A and B like they're supposed to now.
