I have one for more than a year. It is configured to control 3 devices DVD/TV/AMP and three simple activities-Watch TV, Watch DVD/Movie, and Listen to CD.

It is cr@p as it needs re-programming often.
Also, 9/10 times, I have to use help button and fix its improper settings.

If I find out something different, and hopefully better, I'll throw away this one with pleasure.

I've own many devices and gadgets, as well as other Logitech products. This remote is the worst one I've dealt with.

I have a Harmony 550. It controls my Viewsonic n3250v, Philips 5.1 audio system with DVD player and Accurian HDTV tuner.

I have the xbox harmony remote. It's made things a lot easier, but on numerous occassions my devices haven't worked as they should. Overall, I'm still pretty happy with it.

I'm getting a Harmony 880 when Dell Canada has it on sale for CAD$120 in a couple of days. My mom is a bit of a can't watch TV anymore because she's a neophyte and can't figure out how to watch TV or put on a DVD with our current setup

Honestly, you either have a faulty unit or a faulty user.

Have you tried tweaking the settings at all?

A friend of mine has an 880, I think. I love it, definitely worth the money.

I don't yet have one, but want one badly. I'll probably buy one sometime this year.

If you have to press help all the time, it's usually because it's not switching the inputs right. Make sure that the software lists the correct number of inputs for your TV, or it will cycle to the wrong input almost every time. You can also screw the remote up if you're using the "InputNext" command to toggle between the inputs and someone changes the input manually. The remote is smart enough to remember the last input you chose with the remote, so changing it manually can confuse it.

Or, your batteries just might be going dead and the signal isn't strong enough.

I have that problem with my 550 too. It's not perfect. I have to hit the help button at least 4 or 5 times a week. Sometimes when I hit "Watch HDTV" it will switch my TV on and switch on my audio system, but it won't switch on my HDTV tuner. So I have to hit the Help button and go through the steps to turn on my Accurian HDTV tuner.

Other times, I'll hit "Watch TV" and it'll turn on my TV and audio system, but it will set the audio system system to AUX instead of TV. Then I have to get it straight again.

Other times, I'll hit the volume button to up/lower the volume, and it'll keep raising the volume (or lowering) it without user intervention. Then I have to tap it again to get it to stop.

It's a nice remote, but it still needs work.

The Harmony remotes are considered the best in their price class. If you wanted to spend a bit more, consider the Harmony 880.

Thanks for all the responses.

I don't mind spending the money, but I am averse to the internal battery on the 880. I am more comfortable with the AA batteries on the the lower end models in the Harmony series.

I have a bad feeling the internal battery can't be replaced and will have trouble holding a charge in 18 months.
The battery is removable on the 880, but I haven't seen where you can buy a replacement. I'm sure you can get one from Logitech.

I've had my 880 for at least 6 months and I've used it to control everything in my setup. At one point or another it has controlled a Denon receiver, a Toshiba TV, a Sharp LCD, a Motorola digital cable box, a Motorola HD DVR, a Xbox 360, a single tuner TiVo, and a dual tuner TiVo. Setup is always fast and easy.

My Harmony won't even switch inputs automatically on my Viewsonic TV. I have to do it manually through the "soft keys." It's a common problem with Viewsonic TVs on the Logitech Harmony forums.
