I told her she could check out the spy store to see if they had something like that. but seriously what happened to just taking away his laptop till he starts behaving more reasonably?
Or.. you coulda told her the truth.
"Under Canadian law and regulations, the use of jammers is not permitted except in limited circumstances by some federal law-enforcement agencies who have obtained federal cabinet approval" and "penalties for the illegal use of a jammer (which were put on the books in 2005) carry an individual fine of $5,000."

Tell her to run a microwave intermittently, maybe it'll screw up his ping times. (A microwave will certainly cause distortion on my wireless headset, and reduces throughput over a wireless network due to dropped packets.)Lol customer called in today, yes I occasionaly do pick up the phone.
C: Do you guys sell , like signal jammers?
M: um no sorry we don't have anything like that.
C: Oh. Cause my son has a really bad WOW addiction and he's getting WiFi from the Starbucks downstairs.

Either you have a really crappy microwave that's leaking or you have crappy WifiI've never noticed anything like this. Though I have to admit that my main computer is wired so not sure I would notice it. Not that it would be very practical anyway.
But seriously what ever happened to PARENTING? I mean if your child's WOW addiction is so bad that it's getting in the way of him performing in school or getting in the way of his proper development then just take away his fucking laptop till he learns to balance his priorities. Buying a jammer is a laughable solution really.
I just remembered a somewhat related story.
Back when I was working in a retail store during high school (2 years ago) I had a man and woman come in asking for software to block certain sites from being accessible. After talking to them for quite a while they opened up about their son (high school age) visting all sorts of pr0n on their computer..
After a bit I realized, I knew their son quite well since he was in my class. He never heard the end of that one
Came home to discover this on my door step!Should be a nice boost from my current 920. Only paid $395 US for the two (Intel Retail Edge). Probably shouldn't have gotten the Mobo as I could have gotten the 970 by itself for just 215. I have a better mobo in my current rip, Gigabyte UD3R, but I'm going to be assembling another 2 systems for the house so I'll use it and my current 920 in one of those.
Considering the value it was a little disconcerting that they just left it in front of the door, but I'm happy to have it.
Beats me. I've noticed the effect with two different wireless routers, and on my wireless headset - and it happened with 3 different microwaves. (Parents' house, apartment on campus, and also at my own apartment.) It's probably some interference effect caused by the transformer in the microwave.Either you have a really crappy microwave that's leaking or you have crappy WifiI've never noticed anything like this. Yeah, that, pretty much. "Ok, enough computer. Off. Now." And that was it - parents' word was the final word. Yes, sometimes there was room for negotiation, but the rest of the time, there wasn't.But seriously what ever happened to PARENTING? I miss having access to retail edge
I got the same motherboard+i7 920 for 200$ a few years ago. I also got the 80GB X-25 for 100$.
Make sure you sign up for Microsoft Expertzone (if your store is supported..)
I got all kinds of free (and almost free) stuff. Hell, i still get random copies of Office in the mail, and i havent been a member there for over a year

why not just tell her to password protect the setup menu and turn off the wifi?
or go to the starbucks and have them block his ip?

Umm it's her son's computer and she is obviously not very computer literate. Doubt there is anything she would be able to do that her son couldn't undo in a few minutes. And if she had access to his laptop to do these things then like I said the solution is simple, just take it away as punishment till he learns to balance things out.
As for blocking his "IP" what you mean is filtering out his MAC address. The router in Starbucks actually is the one that assigns him an IP, not the other way around. I very much doubt they would be willing to do this as it would be far too much trouble for them and there would be no way for them to verify her story. As a company they wouldn't want to touch any case like that with a 10 foot poll. Besides even if they did block his MAC address there are ways around that too.
