Congrat to Lockheed, the brass probably didn't like the Boeing's unconventional design. This is like one of biggest defense contract in history. We won't see any real deployment of the JSF until 2010. This is still not a sure thing, Congress might get stupid and cut the whole thing.

Lockheed won't see the majority of the money for a few years to come. This JSF thing is like a jack of all trade. Fighter/bomber, a jump jet version for the Marine and British Navy.

Boeing will have a hand in the development of the plane (as Lockeed would if Boeing landed the contract). The government doesn't want to put all the eggs in one basket, so there will be parts, contracted out to Boeing to do. Lockeed needed this much more than Boeing considering Boeing does still produce C17's, attack helicopters and has a completely seperate civilian line of planes.

Yes the F-22 Raptor is different. It is basically a everything jet.... It has the bombing power of a Stealth Bomber and the agility of a f-16. but it costs a bunch.
