Permanent residence is anything but permanent. Applicants have to renew, and renewal doesn't always automatically happen.

This part of the story is interesting:

Kalamazoo County court records show Niec pleaded guilty to a 2008 operating impaired by liquor offense in Kalamazoo County. He completed probation, and the conviction was set aside, the plea withdrawn and the case dismissed, as part of a plea agreement.

He was charged with domestic violence in 2013 and a jury found him not guilty after a trial, record show. He has traffic violations including speeding and careless driving, court records show.

The domestic violence charge shouldn't matter, but the operator impaired liquor offense and traffic violations would certainly draw attention to anyone scrubbing databases looking to enforce federal law.

This is bizzaro world affirmative action coming from Sessions desire to protect whites from oppression, where they need to prove that they are not discriminating against whites.

Pretty sure we all know the real truth behind the rounding up of a couple of token white folks by ICE... Some just won't admit it...

I've known plenty of Salvadorans, Guatemalans, "people with tans" that were here legally but everyone just assumed they were here illegally.
I've know plenty of Irish that every knew and loved but danced around the topic.
Come to think about it, the only Illegal immigrants I've ever known have been Irish and Greek.

Now that I know ICE is chasing down white people too, it's time to start blackmailing some folks.

nonsense. you don't renew permanent residency. It can be conditional, eg, based on marriage, in which case you'll petition to have the conditions removed after 2 years, but that's not the same thing as a renewal. Once you have a permanent green card, without conditions, it can then only be revoked for fraud during the application process, aggravated felony, or for so-called "crimes of moral turpitude."

Not nonsense, the renewal instructions are on the USCIS website:

A Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) is issued to all permanent residents as proof that they are authorized to live and work in the United States. If you are a permanent resident age 18 or older, you are required to have a valid Green Card in your possession at all times.

You should renew your Green Card if you are a permanent resident and your card is valid for 10 years and is either expired or will expire within the next 6 months. You may begin the renewal process by:

Appreciate you reading the link. I am not intimately familiar with the procedures, but I know a guy who's green card expired and because he was self-employed he had to jump through a lot of hoops for renewal and came close to deportation, so I knew it was possible.

My process took extra long because 911 happened during. By the time I got my conditions removed I had already been in the us for 7 years (instead of 2). Then I naturalized, apparently without noticing it would have to be renewed if I didn't. But the other remarks I made should be accurate, re how it's lost.
