Don't you live in NoVa? I haven't seen any around the DMV in like a decade. Last one I remember was on Rockville Pike.

Never heard of them
I hadn't either until I moved to Indiana. Went in there once and won't be back. It had all of the tell tale signs of a shitty electronics store about to close... Felt exactly like the last days of circuit city in there

Lousy service, lousy prices, bait and switch tactics, poorly trained sales peeps, what could have gone wrong?

I went there once to pickup Weber Genesis S-330 grill I purchased on their website for super low price. The place reminded me of Circuit City. That was my only visit to their store or the website.

This is the year of the retail B&M store closings. The Limited is closing all their stores and the Payless Shoes is closing 400 stores as well.

Why is THIS the year, and not all of the other years before this one? Circuit City & CompUSA are gone, Borders is gone, Office Depot & Office Max are now one company and closing roughly the other half... all of which happened before this year.

I used to like HH Gregg and Circuit City, etc... You could go in and look at a ton of TVs side by side and figure out which displays were the best for the money before buying them for hundreds of dollars cheaper online.

You can't do that kind of shopping purely online.....it's nice to be able to see the product.

They filed for bankruptcy a month ago and announced they'd be shutting down 40% of their stores.

http://fortune.com/2017/03/03/is-hhgregg-store-closing-2017-list/

They're going to be shutting down ALL their stores if they don't have a buyer by tomorrow.

http://www.indystar.com/story/money/2017/03/31/hhgregg-nears-going-out--business-sale/99877748/

I have a couple of friends who work at their HQ and are scrambling to find jobs, even though I've begged them for months to look. The writing was on the wall for hhgregg years ago.

Lousy service, lousy prices, bait and switch tactics, poorly trained sales peeps, what could have gone wrong?

They announced today that their "Chief Retail Officer" has resigned. The funny part? He came from Sears - they sure knew how to pick them, didn't they?

I bought my plasma TV from the one here in Manassas but I really don't see how they stayed open as long as they did. The place was always empty when I went in.

I went looking for mini-fridges there. Found nothing. And I was one of maybe two customers in there. It was the weekend.

The one here was much cleaner and more organized than the Best Buy close by it which is always a mess, especially around the TV's with the exception of the Magnolia room.

I have to think these were appliance and maybe furniture stores originally, as they got their start in the 1950s. Electronics came much later, so comparisons with Best Buy or Circuit City aren't really apples to apples. I haven't been in one in years, so maybe that's changed recently.

Yep they are closing a pile of stores and DC's plus filing for BK. The closest one to me is closing up as well and their selection isn't so grand. They expanded too quickly into too many unsustainable markets but they are not alone in this sinking retail ship.

It's tough to compete with Amazon and a well-established Best Buy. Call me nut's but I REFUSE to buy a large TV online, BB or Sams usually comes close in price and if I get one with dead/stuck pixels I can bring it back and return it for $2 worth of gas.

The only electronics place I've been to in the last decade that has been worth a damn is Microcenter. I've bought something from them every couple of years.

I do admit there was one time like 6-7 years ago I spilt an entire drink on a SteelSeries Merc Keyboard and killed it, and the Best Buy near me actually carried the damn rare product, but that was the only time Best Buy has provided satisfaction. The Steelseries Merc Keyboard was discontinued as in now $400 on Amazon. But that's it.

Microcenter was the only store that was reliably busy also.

Yep. Around here we had SunTV. They sold appliances, televisions, home stereo equipment. They added products as time went on; car stereo, cameras, compact discs, computers. I still have my Marantz receiver from there. I imagine there were regional stores like them all over the country. Killed by the national chains. HH Gregg bought SunTV but was never as good.

HH Old Gregg. That would be a funny parody commercial.
