I agree, just hoping the nerd herd had some good advice. This has protective sheets but you cant get to them because you cant open the fooking thing. I am now looking for a locking screw as mentioned earlier...
 
According to the toshiba site, there's a "security lock" slot on the right side of the base. Perhaps that has something to do with the screen ? Check to see if there's a small tool in the box that you may have overlooked ?

One of my first scanners had this kind of locking mechanism for the screen since there was no latch. This laptop appears to have the same kind of design functionality.

You sure that isn't a point to put a security lock into?
 
Wow, someone really has to come on ATOT for help opening their new laptop? Why do people have such difficulty with simple things. Asking how to do something so mundane as opening a laptop is a bit like asking how to apply cologne....

Seriously, just open it. The hinges might be a little sticky but you're not going to break it. Stop being such a pussy about it.

center front, probably upper, push in the display latch. maybe it can't be seen because of the protective sheets.
 
Really hard to admit this...but I was trying to open it from the rear. NOT MY FAULT, the writing is facing the rear too, and the ports are in the front. Who designed this thing??

Yes, I will add pics later to lessen my shame...

I'm no expert by any means. However, I am a product designer (not a 'puter techie like you guys) so I'd like to think that I tend to notice small details others may overlook.

EDIT: Yeup you're probably right. Nifty feature if so. I would imagine that allows you to lock the device so no one else can turn it on ? My laptop is an older Dell but IIRC it doesn't have any feature like that. 😀

LOL that's a kensington lock, nothing to do with the screen/latch.
