It's the first BD chip. Look at how AMD refines the architecture with each revision. Phenom I 9600 2.3GHz > Phenom II C2 940 3.0GHz > Phenom II C3 965 3.4GHz > Thuban E0 1090T 3.2GHz X6

Yes, but at the same time AMD has been falling further and further behind. IMO bulldozer is not and won't help alleviate that, even with updates to the design.
 
I wouldn't say that, nonameo. The CMT portion of BD seems to be working fairly well. It's the core performance in current applications that appears to be the main factor in mediocre results. Although, I hope hardware sites explore the architecture in more detail after the hate dies down.

Back to the topic at hand: any power use info of Llano at 4+GHz?
 
Hello, after i updated my bios via Live Updater 5(bios 1.3 now), I can't OC anything... even de OC genius didn't work. the problem is everthime i change something in my bios, even i change my bios to 101 FSB 29x Multiplier. It won't start my Bios/MSI Logo. I tried with/without Lab burst and both way won't work.


My pc specs:

MSI A75MA-G55
AMD A8 -3860
G.Skill 8 GB DDR3-1600 Kit
Scythe Mugen 3 Cooler

It is not even doing the POST beep?

Have you tried down clocking the DDR3? The Chinese user was using DDR3-2000 but down clocked it. Either way, you should be able to overclock the FSB somewhat.

That could be your problem right there. The best advice that I can give to you is to not use the Live update utility to flash the bios. Back when I was a Moderator over at the MSI forum we used to advise against it because it was known to brick the motherboard, in your case it may have corrupted part of the bios.

Reflash using the Mflash utility in the bios.
 
Apparently "Lab Burst Mode" is just spread spectrum crap renamed. At least that is what the bios option used to be. I am going to need confirmation before I actually buy one of these. Could this be some idiot who bought a whole bunch of these msi boards and is now concocting this elaborate screwjob to sell their boards on ebay for a tidy profit? i5-2400 level performance for under $200 (inc mobo and ram) is just too good to be true.

It seems to be a special spectrum spread setting that allows the thing to go above 130 stable.
 
It just sounds like gobbledegook to me. I've worked with spread spectrum circuits before and it doesnt make any sense how enabling it could possible make any difference. I take lab burst to mean a burst of RFI from an RFI lab. (I happen to work next to an RFI lab. By next to, I mean in the next room. Picture a 12x24x8 room with copper mesh walls.) ie "enable this mode when you send the board off to the rfi lab to be tested." That is how I interpret it. IMHO they are using the fud behind that unknown mode along with photoshop to deliver overclocking results that may simply be made up of whole cloth.

On the website of MSI says "This BIOS can only update via LIVE UPDATE 5", so how is Mflash working? Do I need to download any utility? or is it on the CD what MSI gave me.


EDIT: reflashed, I can modify FSB now. but somehow I can't pass POST Beep with 140 FSB with Lab Burst Mode.

My settings are 133 FSB x 29 multipier. my CPU-Z shows me different numbers.


is that why I am getting shocks/fps drops in game?

Have you tried adjusting your memory divider? The chinese website was using 2000mhz DDR3 and it was down clocked I believe.

I'm guessing you have or some form of power saving feature enabled which is causing your cpu to downclock. Have you tried disabling cool and quiet?

Also 1.31v for 3.9Ghz is pretty decent. Have you tried upping the voltage a bit on the cpu? I'd say 1.4v would be safe enough to try.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Im curious to see how far you can go with it.

EDIT: I'd only try upping voltage if you have a decent aftermarket cooler. I wouldnt try it with the stock one.

1.42v is stock on my Llano A6-3650


EDIT: Man I should be undervolting this thing!!
 
I've heard that A-8s can down volt a fair amount. AMD overestimated some stuff.

3.8 is already beating the 3.2-3.6 OCs people were obtaining.\

I wonder if Anand would make another llano review if we find that FM1 beats Sandy Bridge 2400/2500 in some benchies.

Have you tried any overclocking with your board? It seems there was a new bios posted for your Asus board on 10/17/2011 its the 1.5 bios, the description says "Not assign GPU share memory, when CPU does not have onboard APU".

The lowered clock is because Cool n Quiet is active, you can disable that in bios. From what I've read, some Llano boards have hidden dividers that activate at different htt speeds, so try jumping over 140htt, try 145 or 150, see if you can jump over that. Still, 3.8ghz is impressive oc for basically an HTPC CPU.

Thanks, Cool and quiet was the problem, After reflashing my bios I forgot to turn it off.

I tried to change my FSB to pass 133.( 134/145/150) but all won't POST BEEP/boot. vcore was on 1,48 the whole time.

so I tried to change my multiplier to max. as you can see it booted but I don't know if it makes any differents to benchmarks.
 
If that isn't the clockspeed misreporting bug, and is stable, that's awesome :biggrin:

These OCing results are making Llano look a lot more interesting than I originally thought. Right now they have the potential to be one of those cheap, OCable CPUs.

Still, my AII 620 @ stock is a great HTPC, hard to make the case to upgrade it...

the multiplier have a bug, you can change at your will, but it never goes highter than x29

ok, that 3.8ghz is really impressive.
 
Hmm, its interesting that it fails at 133 with the lab burst mode since lab burst mode is supposed to kick in at 133. Can you screenshot the bios for us if possible or tell us the memory divider/speed settings?

I think you can also try lowering multipliers to get more FSB. Also may want to make sure that LBM is on.
