On August 30, 2008 I bought a Samsung 245BW from Circuit City. About 13 days later I noticed it had two dead pixels and a glitch where the right side of the monitor was mirrored on a bar across the screen (at the time I thought it was my graphics card). I called the store and they said they didn't have anymore and my only choice was to consult the manufacturer. So I did and after some arguing they agreed to ship a new one to my UPS store. Yesterday, I tried to return the Samsung monitor to CC but all they would do is exchange it. The LG W2452T has many problems like severe tearing, tons of noise/grain everywhere, and scanning lines running through the screen. I'm tired of exchanging and I want a refund! I keep on getting defective monitors from my CC and I should be able to return my LG since it was exchanged on 10-14-2008. It clearly states on the back of the receipt that I have a 14 day return policy. All they want to give me is store credit or exchanges. Not only that, but the manager started yelling at me. I miss CRT's since they won't so fragile.

I've been using an Acer glossy displays that's been fine

it hasn't happened very recently but it used to occasionally get a single dead pixel that went away when I applied pressure to it

no idea what caused it, but I haven't seen it happen again for a while

Well, then I see your point =) for a TN panel though my LG L226 has been superb.

I tried that multiple times and it wouldn't go away. I even tried a java plugin that switches the pixels rapidly.

Hmm, I love my LG W2452T! I wish I had another one. That's one crappy Circuit City.

LCD's suck for any image that is not static. Input lag, tearing, motion blur, non-native blur, contrast shifting, no blacks garbage. I can't wait till they disappear.

I've been thru tens of samples and Frys hates me for returning all. Even the highest end ones I own suck compared to a good FD trinitron.

You miss space heaters? =X

You should ask them to test it before you take it home. I haven't had any problems with my LCDs except one stuck-green pixel on a Soyo 15.4", and one stuck-black pixel on my Dell laptop's 15.4" panel. My Dell 20" E207WFP has been flawless.

I haven't seen any of these across my 3 LCDs or in any LCD I've used. What other thin, light, cool-running technology is there that you think should replace them?

The CC's around me have a 30 day return policy...regardless if they violated their return policy you can contact your credit card/debit card company.

Depends on mastercard or visa, but generally you would be asked to provide a copy of the original billing receipt showing the terms and conditions, and put in writing that the merchant refused to allow a return within the return policy.

It's generally good enough to chargeback the merchant. If you win the case though, I highly recommend you to return the merchandise (after the dispute) to avoid any trouble.

I've seen the contrast shift, but that only shows on TN panels. I hope OLED don't experience that.

PVA and MVA color shift worse than TN on horizontal.

You're lucky. Some people are more sensitive to these issues that plaque LCD.

The most promising tech is OLED and was featured extensively at CeBIT this year.

It has almost perfect contrast at any angle, thinner than 1cm and is reactive like plasma and tubes.

Your big mistake was exchanging the Samsung after you found out that it malfunction on the 13th day? My rule of thumb is that if something geos wrong within the return period, then just return the damn thing! Why did you even bother playing the exchanging game with Samsung or CC?????

But now that you have played the exchanged game, CC will not refund the LG because the LG was based on an exchange transaction of the orginal Samsung, which was bought on August 30th. Now had the LG been a separate brand new purchase (as opposed to an exchange transaction) on 10-14-2008, then CC would definitely be obligated to refund the LG.

Because they had no more in stock and I got it for $292 AR plus tax = $325. I didn't want to lose the deal. Now I'm not sure I even got a good deal. I guess I have to keep on exchanging until I find a good one. I might exchange for the Samsung 2443BWX which is on sale for $379.

They never shipped it. I kept on calling and they kept on saying one day it would ship so I got tired of waiting.

First of all, don't budge at all with the stores. If you're right and you don't get your way, move up the chain of command. If they had none in stock, ask them to get one from another Circuit City. YOU'RE the customer, they should be doing what they can (within reason) to make your experiences better. That's called customer service.

Unless you were rude or demanded something ridiculous, I would have asked for a piece of paper and a pen so you could quote what they said, and then asked for their signature. After that, I would have called their customer service (forget the store, look for their 800 number), explained the incident, and asked to speak with a manager.

I recently had a Dell representative called me at midnight trying to get me to buy a product I asked a few questions about. I called their customer service the next day and explained the issue to six different people before finally getting put through to a manager. When the scenario was all over, I had a lot of apologies, and $75 off a $675 item. The discount isn't what finally got me to buy the item, it was their willingness to bend over backwards to make things right in the end.

you rant about LCDs being fragile (they are not) when the whole problem is you getting crappy customer service.

Also, talk about melodrama, at worst you are out a few hundred bucks, not "living nightmare" scenario by far.

I will give the 800 number a call tomorrow. Thanks for the motivation.

I think that this difference depends heavily on the quality and size of the monitor, as well as the panel type.

I hate my laptop's 15.4" TN display - both the vertical and horizontal shift on the TN display make it hard for me to use for anything other than code or web surfing. For me, the vertical shift on TN is a total deal breaker.

However, the 19" PVA monitor I use at home and the 24" PVA monitors I use at work show very little horizontal color shift unless at extreme angles. The shift is there, but you have to look for it. I definitely don't have enough of a discerning eye to tell if it would be a problem for professional image editing or something of that nature.
